Surprise, surprise!

  by TheCube42
<r>The lack of blood didn't surprise me, as someone who grew up with video games like <I><s></s>Ratchet & Clank<e></e></I>.<br/> <br/> What did surprise me, though, was the amount of visual gags in the movie. From Toothless and Stormfly playing with a WHOLE FRIGGIN' LOG, to Gobber throwin...

3D or 2D?

  by TheCube42
I watched it in RealD 3D (non-IMAX). The 3D is relatively subtle in a smaller screen setting, but I think it's still worth it: Just more immersive.

Rating?

  by TheCube42

Score Reviewed (Two Angles)

<r><B><s></s>With respect to the film<e></e></B>:<br/> <br/> A score, when placed in the context of a film, is meant to be subordinate to the movie (except in cases like <I><s></s>The Red Violin<e></e></I> where the score is the main player in the film). The new score does this well: T...

New theme piano improv [SPOILERS]

  by TheCube42
<r>Fun stuff (reduction is something I admire as a string player, since I can only do 4 voices at once, and relatively poorly so.) How long have you been playing?<br/> <br/> A fun idea I had is taking one of the newer themes and assimilating it into some of the first film's music. e.g. At 0:46 (when...

Ludovic Bource is another dark horse, who managed to beat both John Williams and Howard Shore with his score for The Artist, which showed he can write in one of the most elaborate and difficult styles of music (uber-Romanticism).
