There's been quite a few inventions such as Hiccup's welding glasses, his flightsuit and Inferno. I hope makes more interesting inventions.

A Flashback would cool but we need to see what happens to hiccup first then we should see more flashbacks. thats the point of a cliffhanger. to make us wish they would come back.
