A strong breeze flew through the small village, rustling the trees, and disturbing the quiet. At night, the village was as quiet as a mouse, while during the day, especially the morning, it was bustling and blazing with activity. Ever since the Red Death had been defeated, and the village put to peace with their scaled friends, things had been near perfect, with the occasional foe, threat or danger.
Like their Viking friends, the dragons of Berk were snoozing and snoring, all except for two.
Resting in the Chief's house was the Berkian's leader's son, and his Night Fury, the rider twisting and turning in a restless slumber.
Hiccup whined in his unconscious state, unaware that his Night Fury had already woken, and was now bounding over to help his beloved rider.
It was dark. Cold. Silent. He couldn't see anything, but a terrible hissing, familiar but much deeper, was ringing in his ears, creating a horrible throbbing sound. Screams of terror and pain suddenly burst forth, and somehow, he could see again, but he would honestly prefer not to have his vision now, because now the problem was un-seeing it.
Dragons thundered across the blood red sky filled with loud thunder, roaring, screaming and screeching. Bolas flew through the air and sent the ferocious creatures to the ground with horrible snaps and crunches of bones, finished with the agonised cries of the victims.
He was sitting on a scaly black back, Toothless' back. The dragon kept firing at large traps and structures, and before he knew it, a bola came out of no-where, and all of a sudden, they wrapped tight in it. However, as they descended, somehow, without explanation of any sort, they were free again, no traces of a bola having caught them anywhere. They were rapidly approaching a strange, transparent black-skinned dragon, who had talons like swords covered in gold armour, like the back of his neck, on his tail, wing-joints and his underbelly.
On its back was a man in similar gold armour covering him from head-to-toe, and before anything could be said, the two dragon crashed into each other, the sound of strange metal swords clashing, and the sound of talons raking the opposite's underbelly and neck...
Hiccup screamed. A loud, piercing, and absolute terrified scream that sent his bolting up-right. Toothless jumped in shock, recoiling. Hiccup, sweating and shaking, briefly swept his eyes over the room, eventually landing on Toothless, and that's where he left them, just staring into his faithful dragon's warm acidic eyes.
Toothless slowly re-approached his boy, pupils wide with concern and tender love. And, that was all it took, as his next actions, without warning, were the boy throwing his arms around the Night Fury's thick neck, with tears freely streaming down his face.
"Oh, bud..." Hiccup sobbed, the Night Fury slowly melting into the embrace, wrapping his wings around his precious boy. "...I... Love you, bud..." he choked, and Toothless cooed, but was slightly lost; where was his boy trying to say? "Do you... Do you love... Me back?" stuttering, Hiccup looked up at his dragon's surprised and almost... Hurt, expression.
Toothless briefly stayed like that, before pressing his head against his human's chest... His human's chest, whining, practically screaming 'IloveyouIloveyouIloveyou'. Hiccup smiled weakly, rubbing his hands over the smooth scaly sides of Toothless' head.
Then, with a yelp of surprise coming from his rider, the dragon rose up on his hind legs, reached his front paws forward, grabbed his boy, and as he sat on his haunches pulled him in, closing his wings around the youth. Hiccup was left stood, pressed against his dragon's warm underbelly, head resting against it, the dragon's arms holding him under his arms, and his wings acting as a blanket, one human arm laying loosely over the top, the other comfortably hiding his face and somewhat holding him up.
(I don't know anymore... )
"As long... As long as we're together, nothing... Too, bad, can happen... Right?" Hiccup asked between sniffles, and Toothless snorted. Like he would ever let Hiccup get hurt- at least, not without him having a say and fight against it.
A/N: Ok, any readers, this is my first story on here, so please, no flames, especially because I'm so enthusiastic about this place, but hey, this story is BRAND. NEW.
I was planning to just post an old story of mine, but I decided against it. This chapter is a bit short, and not much, other than some little Hictooth comfort. I assure you, though, later chapters will get serious... Ok, well, that's all for now, bye! Thanks so much for reading!

"Hiccup, what is it? You've been glum all day!" Astrid disturbed the 17 year old from his thoughts abruptly, getting a surprised jump in reply.
Hiccup and Astrid were taking a walk in the village, Hiccup on his way to the forge, Astrid to no where in particular. Toothless and Stormfly were walking not far behind, chirping and growling to each other.
Hiccup had to admit, Astrid was telling the truth. It was those thor-saken damned nightmares... He glanced over his shoulder at his dragon, who only briefly caught his look before turning back to the Nadder.
"Hiccup." Astrid called, waving a hand (that could have been a fist, for all Hiccup knew) in front of her friend's face.
"Oh, sorry. Wasn't paying attention." Hiccup responded awkwardly, and the blonde muttered something about how she noticed, but Hiccup pretended not to hear it. "Yeah, I uh... Haven't been getting a lot of sleep recently, that's all." Hiccup didn't remember stopping along with Astrid, but he did recognise when he reached up and scratched the back of his neck.
"Ok, if you say so... Got to bed early tonight, alright? It'll help." Astrid, still looking un-convinced, then turned heel and climbed onto Stormfly, leaving Hiccup standing there with the Night Fury.
Later on, Hiccup was walking back with Toothless to their house, talking to the dragon about how their dreams were scarily realistic. Toothless was listening intently, and downright agreeing with everything he said. Hiccup stopped at the doorstep, about to open the door, when he heard Toothless make a strange noise.
"Bud, was that-" Hiccup turned, and froze, unaware of the village shouting out his name frantically.
Toothless was standing there, jaw hanging open with teeth bared, eyes narrowed into thin slits, with something dripping from his fangs.
A/N: Ok, it was a bit short, but... CLIFF-HANGER!!
Sorry, but I'm all about the cliffiness of cliff-hangers.

"Toothless! What are you-" Panicked, Hiccup threw his hands in front of him, terrified at the image of his best friend. Before he could finish the sentence, however, the entire thing disappeared. In its place, an outrageously terrifying Night Fury, exceeding in size with that of a Red Death, with pitch black scales, blood red eyes complete with narrow slits, and massive wings lowered its head to gaze, almost tauntingly, at him, before lunging forward and opening his giant jaws...
"SON!" Wait, what?
The huge black beast dissolved in a bright flash with an agonised howl, no more. Hiccup slowly returning to consciousness, blinked in succession, dazed, and... Awake. It had been a... Dream? Turned into a nightmare?
"Hiccup?" his father. Ah. That made sense. But why was his voice so muffled? And why was everything so dark?
Hiccup shifted, yawning; he moved to stretch, but found he couldn't. Suddenly, his father laughed, and an annoyed grumble emitted from the belly he was laying against. The cover, which he now realised were Toothless' wings, unfurled, exposing him to the bright daylight and his father.
"Ah, there you are, son!" Stoick teased, pretending that he hadn't known where his son was at all. However, Hiccup barely managed a weak smile in response, he was still shaken up by the ridiculously realistic nightmare. He didn't know much about dreams and all that, those were things only Gothi and possibly Fishlegs would probably know.
Upon seeing the downfallen expression on his greatest treasure's face, Stoick frowned, and this didn't go unnoticed by Hiccup.
"What is it?" the young man asked.
"You don't look good, Son; are you sick-"
"Well, yes..."
Hiccup wasn't done, but it snapped the Chief to action.
"Bed, now." He was about to pick Hiccup up and put him in his bed, due to the fact he was stubborn and would protest, but Hiccup cut him off.
"Not that type of ill, Dad." Hiccup sighed, seeing the confusion crossed across his father's features. "I mean I'm sick of all these nightmares." Stoick flinched harshly, mind immediately rushing to the old scenarios he had faced 5 years ago, and even now.
"The Red Death? Why didn't you tell me sooner?" He asked, but his only child was still not agreeing.
"Because it's not about the Red Death, Dad! It's-" Hiccup stopped. How did he explain it? He couldn't explain it to himself! But, in truth, he had been better at telling someone else his feelings rather than telling himself in a mirror.
"It's hard to explain." Hiccup would of face-palmed. 'Way to go, you muttonhead,' a voice inside his head snapped at him, a moment later being pushed aside.
"Well, I'm listening."
A/N: Yeah, nothing special here. I'd just like to say, that later on, we'll get a lot of Hictooth moments, a few Stoick/Hiccup father-son moments, but I'm afraid there will basically be no Hiccstrid. Sorry, but mind you, they'll always be my OTP ship.

"So that's what I've been dealing with." Hiccup finished, keeping his gaze down towards the floor.
Toothless crooned beside him, as if asking if he was okay. His rider reached a hand up to pat his head, and murmured a quiet 'thanks' before looking at his troubled father.
"Are you sure its nothing major?" He asked, and Hiccup nodded, but the frown on his features betrayed it by a long shot. His father wasn't particularly convinced. They looked away for a brief moment, but Stoick gently lifted his son's chin up to look at him. "Look, I know it's a bit... Exaggerating things, but I'll go see Gothi later on, and maybe she'll have some answers of some note, Ok?"
Hiccup wasn't too sure about the idea of his father telling the elder about his terrible, haunting and realistic nightmares, but his father had that almost... Pleading, look. The look he couldn't really resist. So he simply nodded, told his father he was going on a flight with Toothless to clear his head, getting a nod in reply, before climbing off the bed, and watching as his father made his exit.
He quickly got dressed in his flight suit, saddled Toothless, and left the room. Before Hiccup left the door, his father came over and gave him a gentle hug, which he responded to in a similar manner.
Both exited the house, and mounted their dragons. "See you later, then, I guess." Hiccup murmured, before clicking his prosthetic into place for them to take off into the clear blue skies. Just before they took off, his father told him to stay safe, and wasn't sure whether or not they heard. The Chief sighed, before giving his Rumblehorn, Skullcrusher, a gentle nudge with his foot to get them in the air.
A/N: Ok, so a bit of an empty chapter, but that's because we have some serious spice coming up.

RATING: T (Mainly for violence and gore in later chapters- this chapter onwards, just to be safe)
"Hey bud... Are you sure we haven't checked that island out before...?" Hiccup and his dragon were contently sitting on a small island far north of Berk, just enjoying the view... Until now. Until Hiccup had noticed how dark a nearby island looked.
The Night Fury grumbled, standing. He offered his back, and Hiccup accepted, climbing on swiftly. It didn't take long to get there, but as soon as Hiccup got a decent look at it, he gasped.
Everything. Was. Dead.
As they flew over the barren land, Hiccup could confirm it. There were no signs of life whatsoever, all plant life was dead, black and charred, most of it crumpled- scorch marks littered the place, and talon marks the size of houses were bared deep into the stone walls. Toothless was trembling and quelling in fear, and... Recognition?
Toothless knew about all... This? Did he know what caused this destruction? Or, who, for that matter? Hiccup decided to push it away for the time being, and not question it... Yet.
"I know, bud, I don't like this place either... At all." The young man growled, flicking his gaze up to stare long and hard at one mark... He couldn't put his finger on it; there was something so familiar about the print, the spacing in between the claws...
He was snapped out of his trance, as his dragon whined and stopped. They were in a gorge, the walls, as previously mentioned, covered in burns, scratches, and huge mounds and chunks torn viciously out of the stone. There appeared to be a river, but it's days of flowing appeared to be long over.
"Toothless? Is everything oka-" He was cut off abruptly, as his eyes locked onto something, long and white below them. His heart slowed as he realised something horrifying; it was the exact shape of Toothless' tail fins. Just about a hundred times bigger.
A/N: Wow... I just left you, my dear reader, on a classic cliff-hanger. A big cliff-hanger, if I do say so myself.

Hiccup, trembling with anticipation and terror, eased his Night Fury to go down and investigate. He had to see if there was the rest of the dragon's skeleton... He shuddered. If this truly was a Night Fury... Toothless, at some stage, would be humongous. Right now, he was a rather small size, between the size of Deadly Nadder, and a Gronckle.
As they soared slowly through the gorge, the rock walls disappeared and cut off, leaving them staring, jaws dropped and eyes wide with terror, at what looked to be the ribcage of the dragon.
It would be an understatement to say it was huge.
The skeleton of this dragon, looking awfully and terrifyingly similar to a Night Fury, was almost doubled in size to that of a Red Death...
Each rib was about the length of a Red Death's tail, perhaps longer; the width, was thicker than a small mountain. One of its wings was laid on top of the gorge, which explained the white thin things draped over the top of the gorge. He had been wondering about those. For some reason, also, at the 'mid-point' of the connecting (to the shoulder) wing-bone, there was... A hooked claw? Toothless didn't have one of those, but by now, Hiccup was pretty certain this was a Night Fury. Just a huge, terrifying, and absolutely massive Night Fury...
They stopped as they finally reached the face, after passing by the long (which confused Hiccup; he had always seen Toothless' neck as sort-of short), thick neck. He was left surprised, shocked, and overall terrified.
The Night Fury had much more of a snout than Toothless; its eyes, while somewhat more side-on than Toothless', were still poised forward of some note, but the face was a lot more curved in, and almost Monstrous Nightmare-like. Its huge teeth could be seen, two sets of them. They looked razor-sharp, and dried blood was stained on them... Hiccup shuddered. Looking back up (he actually had to crane his neck up, so much it hurt), he spotted with shock, huge, sharper than swords spines running down its neck, back along its back-bone and its tail. Speaking of which, its tail was long and lethal, but the tail-fins, and the second set of wings remained, just a lot, LOT bigger.
Only after this, did he notice Toothless' reaction. He looked lost in thought, but also terrified, scared, shocked, horrified, upset, mystified, and recognition shone in his eyes. He whimpered in grief, lowering his gaze.
"Bud... Did you... Know him?" Hiccup felt his unnaturally quiet voice falter slightly in his throat, and his eyes stung a bit with tears.
Toothless glanced up at his beloved rider, glaring. "...Her?" Hiccup asked.
Toothless gently nodded.
Quiet, they now stared at the huge carcass of the dragon.
A/N: Ok, so... Yeah. I'll give you this, though. Toothless knew her, but he's not technically related to her. She's not family, at least, directly, and she's definitely not his girlfriend or mate. He knows her, because she's important, but it was a long time ago since he last saw her...

Thanks, you guys'll Personally, I agree.
After that chapter, things get a bit more mature, in a sense. The following chapters, mainly the next five or so, will have a bit of violence, blood and gore, so... Heads up.
I guess, here's some little spoilers, or facts that could come in handy.
FACTS:
Night Fury Age Span Night Furies are known to have the longest life span of all dragons, exceeding that of the mighty Bewilderbeast, and the vicious Deaths, Red to Black variants. That's saying a lot... The oldest Night Fury recorded was over eight hundred years old, and plays a huge part in the history of dragons, until he was slain by the first dragon rider, for his evil intentions. With the assistance of magic and a strong bond, their riders can survive along with them, and age will not ravage them, only death, injury, magic and poison.
Night Fury Evolution Night Furies are one of the few species, to evolve. Up through to about their 30s, Night Furies have the signature, well known appearance (what Toothless looks like now). After that, males will begin to form more spikes along their jaws, and on their forehead, somewhat similar to how a man grows facial hair. (Giggling over here)
When females and makes alike hit the 70s mark, depending on the strength of their bond with their soulmate, magic can transform them into a much larger, more lethal dragon. A longer neck, sharper spines down the back and neck and tail, larger wings and a more outwards snout adds up the Titan form. From there on out, they don't stop growing. A little bit bigger every month or so. When they are 300 or so, they are capable of evolving into the Ancient stage. Huge, bigger than the Death variants, and almost as large as a Bewildebeast, they are the most lethal and dangerous dragons of all.
SPOILER FOR (NEXT) CHAPTER:
A thing with Skullions...
If there's dead bodies, there's Skullions. If there's been a fight, there Skullions. Hint hint, Hiccup and Toothless should seriously get out of there...
