I had a thought earlier today. What if the reason Gobber said "And for other reasons" is NOT because he is gay (still a possibility), but because he HIMSELF was in love with Valka! And he never remarried because she broke his heart when she chose Stoick over him! And he could never love another as much as he loved her!!!!!!

Stoick - Ned Stark / Brandon Stark
Valka - Catelyn Stark/Tully
Gobber - Peter Bailish

But sadly this cannot be the case. Dean said so himself.

I think there are many different ways of interpreting that line...it just depends on what makes you more comfortable, or what you personally believe is more likely. That said...I like your theory

And AndyMay...I have got to start watching GOT...all I've seen are a few parts with Dany

No one ever said anything about simply ignoring it. We're talking about finding ways to pretend it doesn't exist in case someone might be uncomfortable.

But why Gobber and Stoick are still friends? I rather think that Alivin loved Valka too, but not Gobber, because of the thing I wrote one sentence before...
