http://www.hitfix.com/in-contention/how ... discussion

This article from HitFix was just posted and wow. It was written by the same guy who posted this article ranking all dreamworks films yesterday and put dragons 1 & 2 in the 2nd and 1st spots respectively.

Its not a secret that the academy doesn't really appreciate animated films or family films in general for that matter, so to say that dragons 2 should be considered for BP is sort of a bold and probably controversial statement. Its only June so its probably a little early to start making statements like this. So what do you all think, does it have a chance or is this guy jumping the gun a little bit?

That would be awesome if DreamWorks won something! But winning THAT award? That would be freaking amazing really. I hope for at least some rewards for HTTYD2.

i don't think theres really any chance of it actually winning best picture, but just to be nominated, as an animated film, would be a huge deal in itself.

If they won that I'd jump up and scream in my moms face ''I FREAKING CALLED IT!''

But I'll be honest I am very confident it will win something this year, if it doesn't I'm done with life.

Wow! I loved reading this article and the review mentioned in it. It makes me 1000x more excited to see the film!!! Its gonna be so great! :D

And for the record: I would have nominated and awarded the first one with best picture. From the reviews, the second definitely should win something.

That would be fantastic if it did. It's certainly good enough to my mind that it should be nominated for Best Picture. It has exactly zero chance of winning, mind you, but even being nominated would be a great achievement. I guess we'll wait and see.

I dunno. If Hayao Miyazaki hasn't gotten a nod for best picture I find it really hard to see HTTYD getting a nomination.

if I remember well the best animated movie category was made to avoid this case scenario, but, in any case, I don't think it will be nominated best picture, best animated picture definetly though I can't garantee it's going to win.
Personally i'm rooting for HTTYD3 to win everything (of course if they handle the plot correctly and are careful with the "mistakes" they did in the previous ones) -> kind of pulling a ROTK

People were claiming Toy Story 3 should have been considered for best picture, and I'm still bitter HTTYD lost to it for best animated! At any rate, the Academy generally doesn't consider animation as a medium that's worthy of being considered alongside live action... a huge mistake on their part, I think. I hope one day that will change, particularly as animation has no limits -- so why limit what people should be watching it?

Well, Pixar were nominated in 2011 so there's hope. Personally it wouldn't even need to win, a nomination in the main category would be amazing in it's own right. I highly doubt it will be nominated this year though unfortunately.
