After the China release for HTTYD2, the movie passed $500,000,000 in the global box office!

"The highly acclaimed sequel is now not only one of the best reviewed films of the year, but also 2014’s highest grossing animated film to-date and one of the top ten grossing films of the year in any genre."

I've been out of the loop because of recovering from surgery but this is SUPER great news to come back to, especially after all of the box office worries from the past couple months. :D Party time!

Worldwide, HTTYD2 is currently DreamWorks' 11th highest grossing film, but it's also their lowest grossing sequel (the next lowest is Madagascar 2 with $604 mil).

If it performs well in China, it should overtake the original Madagascar ($533 mil) to become their 9th highest grossing film worldwide, but it's unlikely to catch up to Madagascar 2, so it will probably keep the dubious distinction of being DW's lowest grossing sequel.

Domestically, HTTYD2 is their 12th highest grossing film and second lowest grossing sequel ahead of Kung Fu Panda 2.

DreamWorks currently has four film franchises which have spawned a total of seven sequels. Puss in Boots and The Croods are set to become their fifth and sixth franchises.

Highest grossing animated film to date, this year. I think the highest grossing animated film to date ever is still Frozen.
