I don't know if this has already been made, but I just rewatched HTTYD 2, and the movie foreshadows Stoick's death from the beginning.

The scene when the Valka's alpha, the king of dragons died, foreshadowed Stoick's death. So it wasn't entirely coincidental that the leader of the vikings died a few minutes after.

Also, when Stoick said to Valka, "I never thought we'd be able to sing that song again before we died." The creators were literally saying into our faces, one of them is gonna die.

And I also thought, if Hiccup loses 'His father, his tribe, his best friend,' and he's already lost his father, what gonna happen in the finale?

In the first movie, when Stoick and Gobber were talking, and Gobber tells him "You won't always be around to protect him, he's going to get out there again, he's probably out there now" and "You can't stop him. You can only prepare him."

And then protecting Hiccup was the last thing Stoick ever did.
