Don't know if this has already been posted, but HTTYD 2 got nominated for the Animated Feature Film.

The Lego Movie didn't make the list but HTTYD2 is still going against Song of the Sea, the Boxtrolls, Princess Kaguya, and BH6.

Fingers crossed.

Big Hero 6 may pose a threat. Didn't see it because I'm kinda burnt out on superhero movies.

Box Trolls looked a little stupid (just my opinion) so I never saw it.

As for Song Of The Sea or Princess Kaguya. Well, I've never even heard of them. Are they foreign films?

Saw the Boxtrolls (it was cute but... meh.) and BH6 (WOWZERS) and I don't know the other two, so I am guessing Dragon is the crowd fave in this list. However, you never know, I guess.

Princess Kaguya is an amazing movie. Its just completely unfair that both HTTYD 2 and Kaguya can't win simultaneously. :(

I believe Song of the Sea is Irish and had a limited release. Princess Kaguya was produced by Studio Ghibli. It came out in America in 2014, although it's initial release in Japan was in 2013.

That awkward moment when your Irish, and you had no idea what song of the sea was until now XD

I'm pretty sure bh6 is good even though I haven't seen it yet >:( so as you guys said it might pose a threat. But I find it pretty unfair that the boxtrolls got nominated and the Lego movie didn't.

But httyd 2 has already won a golden globe, and the mere fact it was nominated makes me pretty happy ^_^

Issues with the overall nominee list aside (*cough*everythingisnotawesome*cough*), this is a well-deserved nomination for HTTYD 2.

As for the eventual winner, I find myself apathetic towards the matter in terms of the award itself. Of the two nominees that I've seen (HTTYD 2 and Big Hero 6), the two are, for all intents and purposes, equal in quality. Princess Kaguya and Song of the Sea could easily be great, since I know basically nothing about them. So basically, as long as Boxtrolls doesn't win (based on the Tomatometer, I have a very hard time believing that it's anywhere near the quality of HTTYD 2 or BH6), I won't be upset with the award as such.

However, as I have said before, I think losing the Oscar for a second time would give DeBlois and co. that extra push to make HTTYD 3 as good as it can be, looking deeper into the story and fixing issues that would otherwise go unfixed.

Given these two factors, and the lack of any negative consequences from losing that Oscar, I'm rooting for Big Hero 6 in this category.

Don't feel too bad. The head film critic for my local (Australian) newspaper, in the course of his doom-and-gloom reports on the Australian film industry, seems to have not realised that The Lego Movie was animated by an Australian studio. I think we can all agree that's a far less forgivable gap of knowledge.

Cartoon Freak, i'm really curious what you'll think of Kaguya. For me, its easily one of the best animated movies of 14. It deserves an Oscar more than any other nominee in my opinion. So my hopes are for Kaguya and HTTYD 2. I don't want disney to win an Oscar with an another ordinary film.. but i guess Big Hero 6 is the favourite now.

Or who knows? Maybe Boxtrolls will win.

Yeah, I don't want Disney to win yet again either. Here's hoping that the Disney curse is broken this year.

I am certainly interested in seeing Princess Kaguya (hey, it's Studio Ghibli; while they may not be quite my thing, there's no denying the quality of their work), but I'm not able to find any evidence of either a DVD or major theatrical release for it in Australia.

Honestly, if I had to go with a favourite based purely on a studio's inherent credibility, then it would definitely be Princess Koguya. Only Pixar even comes close when it comes to the goodwill of the Academy (whether or not this is deserved is best left for another topic), and Monsters University's lack of a nomination last year shows that such goodwill is definitely less than it was. As things stand, I try to limit predictions towards what I've seen or at least have a good idea about.
