I'm not too sure how to respond actually; I was hoping for the entirety of the story to make another time leap like HTTYD did. I would've liked to see how Hiccup revolutionized Berk as its Chieftain. Besides, it gives some realistic breathing time between the events of HTTYD 2 and the, inevitable 'big event' that happens in HTTYD 3.
This may be an odd sounding factor, but I think that a large appeal to the general audience was Hiccup, more specifically, his new looks. I think if they were to indeed age of the characters to say, 30, he would lose that appeal, and I fear this is a primary restriction on further aging the characters.
Overall I just really really really hope they drop or limit the presence of the side characters (especially the Twins). I am definitely happy to hear that Stoick will be making a return in some form, because other than Hiccup and Toothless, I feel he's the strongest character (not physically xD)
