I don't have access to the final HTTYD book yet, so to get my fill of new Dragons right now, I'm reduced to scraping hype from the bottom of the barrel of remotely interesting things about HTTYD 3...
Anyways, there's apparently been a new ("new" in a loose sense) interview with DeBlois, and he's suggested some things about the plot that we kind of already knew plus this new tidbit about "exploring dragon mythology." To me, that could mean just about anything. Ideas?

The first page of hype
The second and more interesting page of hype
The REALLY old interview that somehow manages to create new hype every few months
The not-as-old interview that does the same thing

If "exploring dragon mythology" means adding more detail to the world and lore they've created then I'm all for that. Personally it's that detail that I love most within any world so I'm always for more of it. If he means exploring actual dragon mythology then I'm honestly not as interested. Since it's something that is fairly "open to interpretation", considering no two writers will have the exact same ideas on dragons. I mean there are some general conventions you can expect to see, but then you have Cloudjumper who kind of defies convention somewhat, at least within this particular story.

I'm with you on that one. Maybe he means that he and the concept artists will study dragon mythology from history for new inspiration, even though I've always liked the original ideas and dragons with extraordinary abilities of the franchise. Besides, between the show and the movies, they have a TON of dragon breeds to choose from already.

I don't think you need to be to concerned about spoilers, since most everything in this topic is going to be based on what-ifs and assumptions.

But to address the idea of someone managing to turn the people of Berk against the dragons again. At the point in time in the story that the second movie takes place I doubt something like that would be able to happen in the third. Mostly because they've lived with the dragons for multiple years now. As of the second movie 4-5 years so it can be assumed the third movie would move the clock forward some as well. So it would have to take a major event and something really bad at that to re-poison that well and turn them against the dragons.

The reason it worked for Mildew though was due in large part to the fact the dragons were still so new to the vikings, their way of life, and their culture. With such a major change happening so suddenly it's understandable how they would turn against the change so easily after that initial excitement wears off and they're left trying to figure out what to do with all of the dragons. Which works really well for how Mildew is able to work them up into a frenzy at the first sign of major trouble.

Now after so many years with the dragons and having involved them more and more into their lives and culture (examples: the thawfest games, the vikings celebrating Bork the bold, and the dragon races) it would and should be much harder to poison that well. I'm not gonna say it wont or can't happen I've been wrong before. Just that considering how DW have set things up so far I don't really feel it would make the best of sense currently.

Oh, okay. Thanks for clearing that up for me ;)
