The touch scene was based off of the directors encounter with a cat. When meeting a new cat you usually can't just reach out and touch it or it will hiss or run, but by reaching out his hand he found the cat came forward and rubbed up against his hands, thus the inspiration for the "touch scene" in HTTYD 1.
