<3 <3 It's incredible to think that 10 years ago today, How to Train Your Dragon 2 was released to the world <3 <3 .*

These forums were only a few weeks old at that point :O , and the hype and excitement for HTTYD2, and the entire dragons franchise, was probably at its peak. I personally remember being so excited to see it, after having the posters, teasers and trailers revealed to us slowly by DreamWorks.

So come and join us and share some memories of ten years ago :D . Were you waiting in line to be the first to see it in the cinema? Did you dress up, or watch it together with other fans/friends? What did you think of HTTYD2 when it came out? Let us know below! :)

* We use US general release dates for everything - it was released in some countries after the 13th, and there were some preview/sneak screenings before then too. But we need a date to use! :P
Astrid - "Hictooth"?
Hiccup - Yeah, it's not my snappiest comeback.

Unfortunately, I was so late to the Dragons scene that I wasn't even aware the franchise existed back then. But hey, now I am, and I don't love it any less for discovering it a couple years after this celebrated fact! <3 HTTYD2 may be my least favorite of the trilogy (and yes, I may just be salty Drago's such a barbarian and Stoick dies the way he does :P ), but it's still a great film with a poignant message! :toothless:

Like HTTYD, I first watched this online with my oldest sister. In fact, I think it was the same evening we watched the first one, so undoubtedly it helped shape me into the dragon-crazy raving fan I still am to this day, and thus helped lead me to you all! ^_^ Glad to be a part of this corner of the internet!

Oh how long has it been since I was last on here, also thanks for the email! I kindve forgot this forum existed :/

I don’t remember much of launch day, I do remember seeing it a few days after it came out but I was still quite young at that stage. It was the third release I remember more as I was a bit older and can remember lol.

HTTYD 2 has a special place in my heart; it is my least favourite of the three but I loved the characters the most and it’s what stood out! I also remember the animation was historic for the time and how they made a big deal about the hair and what not and how it was a breakthrough lol.

My favourite scene probably would be when toothless challenges the alpha for the spot but the scene that stuck with me the most was when hiccup farewells his father with the fire arrow, that scene coupled with the music still makes me sad to this day. :(

Here’s to HTTYD 2 turning 10! Hope everyone’s had a good life since the many years I was last active!! 8)

Wow that email was certainly a blast from the past :O some nostalgia to bring me back

10 years ago feels crazy! I remember our HTTYD2 meetup in London with some of the folk from here and all of the posts, anticipation and theories before! It was truly good fun and special to meet people that had the same nerdy love for Dragons

Both that film and this forum meant the world to me during a really tough time and I will always cherish the friends and memories I made here. It was a whole community of the most amazing, interesting and funny people. Most of all I am also grateful that HTTYD sparked a passion for film and animation that led me to the career I have today. What a journey!

Much love to you all and hope you are all doing well

My good god it's absolutely insane to think it's been a decade since Dragons 2 dropped.

It's incredibly hard to express how much of a profound impact these films and this forum had an impact on my life. I literally ended up moving to Canada for 2 years, and it's all because of the wonderful people here.

I hope everyone is doing well still, and I wish all of you all the absolute best. Here's to another 10 years of Dragons!

It's lovely seeing some names I remember from the good old days!

I also remember the London meetup for HTTYD2 being talked about then - I was very sad I couldn't go, and it sounded like it was a ton of fun. But now I've been to many others and made some amazing friends.

The forums will still be here in another 10 years, I'll make sure of that... whether anyone will still be around is a bigger question, but I'll always remember the good times.

Ah, what a blast it was.
I remember going to the USA just to go watch itbearly, because it came out so late in Germany.
Not sure how, but somehow SilaNightFury and so I visited her for around two weeks IIRC.
We drove quite long to go to a cinema that showed it a day earlier, on a Friday.
And afterwards I watched it several times there in the cinema, because SilaNightFury had to work a few days.
Sadly I lost contact with her

And then there was the meet-up in London where I had my first meet-up with other dragon fans and nerds.
I'm really glad I found this fandom and this forum, which les me to later meet more amazing people and which ultimately led to where I am right now.
I'm really glad all this happened to me, because those movies and this fandom helped me so much during my darkest time.
But it's really sad that with the end of the Skypevine I lost the contact of so many people :(

And guess what I'm doing right now in celebration! (already almost 1 hour into the movie)

I still truly love and cherish you all.

I feel lucky to have met life long friends in this community (hello smut club gang ;) ) and had the opportunity to travel and meet really cool people and create great memories because of this movie.

When I first joined this community and for several years after I was a bit of a shy awkward 19 year old that just really liked Dragons that didn't have many social skills. The lead up to HTTYD2 was so fun on here, and I'm so proud that I had the opportunity to meet some fantastic people. The butterfly effect this forum and movie had on my life can't be understated.

Anyway, I hope everyone is doing well! With the live action coming up and the theme park in Orlando hopefully there's time to make new memories. :toothless:

Wow, this was not an email I was expecting to get this morning, but what a flood of memories after coming back here and remembering the good times I had with this franchise and this community! :O I, like many people, was on the hype train for HTTYD2 after the first movie blew me away. This was a landmark franchise that's shaped my interests since.

I can remember my first viewing experience pretty well:

I found a group that was going to a midnight premiere (remember when those were only at midnight?) via a site that a fellow fan had put together to help with just that. Before the show, I went with my younger brother to get some food at a fast food place, and it stormed like crazy while we were there. It felt like an omen of the intensity that the film would bring us later. At the premiere, it was just our group of fans (and maybe few other people). It was so refreshing to meet some other people as enthusiastic as I was for the franchise. During the movie, there was some kind of error (either in the video or audio) and they had to go and take a moment to fix it. At some point, they skipped back and everyone asked for it to be skipped back towards where the film was and we almost went too far into the film! When the film ended, we all had tons to geek out about and discuss immediately in the theater and the hallways, what a movie and what a night! 8)

It's great to have this little reunion among this group of fans of this franchise. This was a cherished chapter of my life as I went through the highs and lows of my high school years. Dragons have been one of my favorite topics ever since seeing the first film, which has inspired me in many ways in my life.

I hope the best for all of you and glad to be a part this fantastic community with you! <3

Great to see you all back from the past! I recognize several of your names. AndyMay, Gh3ttoKinG, thescienceofmagic... I think you had all drifted off by the time I joined, but you're certianly part of the great Grapevine Forums legacy! Hic626, Unitedmoviemaker, can't say your names/avatars ring a bell, but hey, great to meet some other members from the past! :D

It would be nice to get to know you all a bit better; you planning on sticking around and engaging with the forums for a bit? What fun it would be to see some activity again, and from long-time members whose posts I've seen but who I've never actually had the chance to talk with! ^_^
