why do you like HTTYD ?

  by doeslingx
<r>I'm going to attempt a pretty haphazard analysis of why I fell in love with HTTYD. There are lots of individual things: it's got a relatable witty hero, the greatest animated creature <I><s></s>ever<e></e></I>, seriously neat flying sequences and a brilliant soundtrack.<br/> <br/> But I th...

Livestream HTTYD?

  by doeslingx
Dude, I'd totally be up for this. Though I am travelling a lot for the next month, so it's touch-and-go whether I'll actually be able to take part.

But yeah, for the moment sign me up.

Edit: didn't see the main topic.

Was the death of stoick really necessary?

  by doeslingx
<t>Necessary? Well, probably not, but the film is better because it happens. It just adds several layers of darkness that you would not expect in a film that is, ostensibly, for kids. In most (Western) kids' films with parental deaths, I think they happen towards the beginning of the film, then the ...

So how many times have we watched this movie?

Just had my 4th viewing. The dude who checks tickets at my local cinema is beginning to give me weird looks.

I still cried

Edit: China! HTTYD2 International success

Just gonna point out that HTTYD2 beat out Transformers to the no. 2 slot, both in the 2nd week of their release in the UK. *Surge of patriotism*

How Astrid indirectly caused the death of Stoick

  by doeslingx
<r>There's no way she could have known what she was starting. It was a gamble and it didn't pay off, but you have to remember that their situation at the time looked totally hopeless. She was playing the one card she thought she had left in their hand.<br/> <br/> You can go to literally any point in...

At my local cinema (also an IMAX) HTTYD2 is getting more showings per day than any other film for the next week, including Transformers 4. I guess that shows that Odeon management, at least, has faith in the film.

HTTYD 2 questions I would like to share (SPOILERS!)

  by doeslingx
That is a seriously impressive bit of analysis. :O

So any ideas what the positions on Hiccup's cheat sheet in the first film would correspond to? In those days only one of the pedals seemed to control anything, and the prosthetic was made of much flimsier material (paper?)

Hiccstrid kiss at the end.

It was really sweet, and I like how they brought it back from the brink of cheesiness with Gobber's reaction, which was hilarious.

Dammit UK. Last week it was 'Mrs Brown's Boys D'Movie' at no. 1, this week it's Transformers 4. HTTYD2 at no. 2. But good to see that most countries have better taste.
