Here is the link to my latest fic. This is only my second fic ever, and it's just the first chapter, so go easy on me. ![]() https://www.fanfiction.net/s/10494485/1 ... es-of-Life The Waves of Life How do two people who are so different find themselves drawn to one another? This takes place in the early days of Valka and Stoick's relationship. Before he became chief, before her loyalties changed, they each found something in the other worth clinging to. (Will eventually by five to six chapters long. Title may change.) Friendship/Romance, [Stoick/Valka], In-Progress, Rated: T Thanks in advance for your feedback! |

I think you did a great job writing it. The only thing I didn't understand is how the son of the chief didn't know someone on a small island. I live in a small town, and I know almost everyone and it's probably fifteen times more populated. That's all of the feedback I have for you. Thanks for sharing your fic.! |

Chapter 2 is now up! I've been getting a lot of views on this story, but not so many reviews. I don't want to beg, but any feedback as to what what is working or not working would be immensely helpful as I continue this project. It's nice to know whether people are reading and enjoying, or just popping in to see what's up, being underwhelmed, and then leaving, never to return. ![]() https://www.fanfiction.net/s/10494485/2 ... es-of-Life |

I personally like that you mixed in Gobber's back-story on this. Although its a topic that is controversial, some people might enjoy reading this. Keep with it, and do what's in your heart. Let you heart tell the story. The humor in Valka is something I like,; one thing I think you should put in there is a wisdom to Valka. She seems to have a lot of wisdom in HTTYD 2, like at Stoick's funeral, and just after Stoick died. It still stuns me that right after her husband died, she defended Toothless for his actions. Maybe put in how she came to change her views about dragons, or question it? Maybe also put in something about how they came to have their own song? (for the dancing and dreaming) It could be a very heartfelt scene if played out right on a sad moment turned happy on how their song was created. Perhaps even sang again when Stoick becomes chief. I'd also like to see a wedding, and Stoick's chief ceremony, how he reacts, etc. Was he at all like Hiccup? Did he fear the responsibilities of becoming chief, doubt himself at all? How did he become so stoick, hiding his emotions from others except those he truly cares about? Just some things to think about, ideas and such. Let me know what you think. |

Thanks for the feedback! I was wondering how people would respond to that...The lack of feedback on that chapter hasn't done much to comfort me, frankly. ![]() Some of the things you mentioned will be touched upon (I basically have the whole thing outlined, and I don't anticipate deviating from it too much at this point). As for Valka's wisdom: the hardest part of this story is "reverse-engineering" the characters from who they are in the films. Stoick is easier, because we have more of him to go on. Valka's trajectory is tougher to trace, because we have less to go on, and there was a twenty-year gap in her life where her personality might have changed significantly from what it was. Also, I feel like she can't be so strange at 17 that there would have been major objections to her and Stoick's marriage. I've kind of decided that, at this point in her life, she is definitely the wise-beyond-her-years type, but also idealistic-bordering-on-naive, and I tried to show that in chapter 2. The chapters to come will delve into that more. I have this feeling that she is a generally peaceful person and has been all her life. She's curious and caring--too much for her own good sometimes. She is aware that these character traits make her stand out, and she is trying her best to blend in, but she has her own ways of finding an escape when the pressure becomes too much. She sees Stoick as this ideal pillar of responsibility that on some level she wishes she could be, and he sees he as a symbol of freedom from all the burdens that come with his position. Soooo...that was a lot of explaining! But that's where I'm coming from, and a taste of where I'm headed. More to come soon! |
