"There you go, Hiccup.' Gobber said, bringing a Terrible Terror to me.
"Gobber...' I sighed.
"Yes?'
"When I said I wanted a dragon, I meant I wanted one I could ride.'
"Well, I don't have any rideable dragons. Only Terrible Terrors.'
"Why couldn't you have told me that in the first place?!'
"You didn't ask. And besides, we don't have any room for rideable dragons; Grump takes up too much room.'
"Well, I guess I'll just have to go to the Academy then...'
"Right. Have fun." Gobber got back to hammering metal.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Hey, Dad...' I said wearily.
"Hi, son! What brings you here to the Academy today?'
"Well, I need a dragon.'
"Preferably, a rideable one.' Vulon interjected helpfully.
"What he said.'
"Oh, I didn't see you there, Vulon! How are you, little guy?'
I'm fine, and my leg is healing nicely, if you wanted to know.'
"That's great, Vulon!'
"Dad-'
"Oh. Right. Yes, of course. You need a dragon.'
My father led me to where some dragons were being kept, and children were crowding around them excitedly.
"Um, hey, kids, don't play with the dragons-'
One child had gotten too close to a Terror, and it had nearly taken his hand off. He ran off, crying.
"Olaf, I warned you...'
"Okay, so, which dragon do you want?'
I'd like a-'
"Wait, son. Remember, you need a dragon with a good temperament. How about a...Gronckle?'
"Fine,' I said. I kind of wanted a Nightmare instead.
He opened the door of the holding pen, and the Gronckle waddled out.
"Now, be careful with him. He was found in a trap recently, so he might be a bit nervous.'
"The first step in training a dragon, is to let him know you're a friend, and that he can trust you.'
"Hey, it's okay. I'm not going to hurt you.' Hiccup whispered soothingly, stroking the Gronckle gently.
The scared look in the Gronckle's eyes faded, and he licked my father's face with a fat, pink tongue.
Hiccup laughed. That was the first time my father had laughed, since his own father had been killed.
"Stop it, stop it!' he spluttered, pushing the Gronckle away. The dragon didn't understand; he just thought it was a game.
"Next,' my father said, once the Gronckle had stopped licking him, 'We need to give him a name.'
"How about... Grud?'
"That's a perfect name."

Update: This is a very short one.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Well son, before you leave for the Quest... I think you should say goodbye.'
Hiccup The Fourth hugged his father.
"Bye, Dad."
"Bye, son.' Hiccup said tearfully, as if it was for the last time.
Hiccup The Fourth climbed onto Grud, and flew off, Vulon flapping beside him.

"So... Where do we go now?' I asked Vulon.
We will fly to the Nest. As your father found out, your dragon will lead you there.'
I laid down on Grud's warty back, and watched the clouds float by. Nightfall was approaching. We would have to find a place to rest soon.
Suddenly, Grud's speed quickened. He must have found the Nest. I had to sit up quickly, for fear of falling off, and tumbling head first to my death. Of course, I would have to hope that Grud was loyal enough to catch me...
As we got closer, I could see dragons of all shapes and sizes, taking the food they raided back to their Queen. Or King; I didn't know what gender the Death was yet.
"Get down... We don't want them to see us...'
Too late.
"So, Terror, you have returned with the Gronckle. I presume that the human runt that the Gronckle is carrying on its back is food for the Queen. Although, such a scrawny child will not be enough to satisfy Her Majesty's hunger; it may well be you that she decides to eat. I suppose, in comparison, a human runt would be a larger meal than a dragon one.' a Nightmare sneered.
"We're going dooooowwwwwnnnnnn!' I screamed, as we plunged, terrifyingly fast, into the Nest.
