What do I put here again?

Derik watches the ship burn stoically. He isn't sure how to feel in this situation... He also wasn't sure what would happen now since they were in need of a new chief and there weren't many suitable candidates. Derik considers offering himself as chief but is unsure as to how it would be taken and keeps his mouth shut about it. |

Tyra takes a deep breath and stands with a new determination- not without a look of mourning in her eyes. The village people pick their heads up and wait for her to speak. She sniffles. "I...well...I need to say 'thank you', first of all, to each and every one of you, friends, family, and fellow tribesmen, for preparing this so quickly. You dropped everything you were doing for my husband, and, in a time of war, that can be very dangerous...I...just...thank you. Er...but...we cannot deny that a siege threatens us...possibly even as soon as tonight. If we are to hold it off, we will need a leader...someone to unite us like...like Hagen could." Tyra replaces the bow in her hands with an item that had been sitting on the ground beside her. "In order to both keep my word and honor my husband's recommendation, it is under the watchful eyes of the gods that I...I surrender the chiefdom of the family Calderson and offer the great responsibility to...to the able Derik, son of ------." She looks at the sea captain and thrusts the item in his direction- a hooded cloak of coarse bear fur, clasped by a silver brooch engraved with the tribe's symbol that has been passed down for generations from chief to chief. |

"I... I don't know what to say. I wasn't expecting this... Well, I suppose I should give a speech, but honestly, it's hard to try and promise to do what Hagen did especially after all that had occurred. I can't say I'm worthy of this but I promise to try and live up to what Hagen saw in me." Derik looked down and smiled, thinking of how perfect this had worked in his favour. "I promise to be a benevolent leader to the best of my abilities. I hope to bring an end to the war and change the tribe for the betterment of the tribe." Derik puts on the cloak and holds up his staff to the sky. |

Tyra nods, offers a courteous smile, and glances away. It was a lot to take in. Her daughter shuffles up and pulls at her skirt, and the duo quietly steps away from the center of attention. The village gives a halfhearted cheer- they are loyal to the new chief, of course, and glad to have a leader, but the previous events of the day make it difficult to offer a truly enthusiastic response. Someone pipes up from the back of the crowd. "So...Chief...what do we do? The enemy is converging on us as we speak!" |

"Prepare the defenses. We need blockades and weapons. Take inventory of all the supplies we have and prepare for the worst." Derik felt something he never had before... He felt like he'd soon understand the hardship of being a leader and the pressures as a result. He shoved the feeling to the back of his mind, he couldn't let this get to him already. It wasn't even in a time of peace so the timing would be very inconvenient. |

"And don't forget the dragons!" As the crowd begins to disperse and follow orders, the largest and most intimidating man in the tribe, their prized warrior, points to a few other able men and motions for them to travel to the pens and bring the reptiles to the "front line." He then ambles over to Derik, towering over the new chief as he gazes out onto the watery horizon and watches for the enemy. "Geir," he says as he introduces himself. "Hagen's- and now your- right-hand man." |

"As long as you fight for the benefit of the tribe, I won't oppose you." Geir glares a little more intensely as he says this. He had climbed onto the chief's ship in the storm, and he has a hunch about Derik and his loyalty to dragons. |

I respect the words of Hagen and Tyra as if they were from Thor himself, but I am not above challenging power in their names if you happen to let those priorities slip your mind. I know about Berk. That chief values dragons like offspring, and believe me when I say that you will never be allowed to descend to his level of insanity." |
