As others have mentioned, the original Berk from the books was based on a small island her family owns that she used to visit a lot as a child (source). However if I recall correctly, for the movie the creators went to various locations to get visual ideas and this island could very likely be one of them. It seems extremely difficult to get access to it for a holiday though (I may have searched it before ehe) xD |

I wouldn't holiday there, it might be the lovely bunch of wet rocks, but we're talking the empty island here. If it was Berk then that would obviously change a few things.

That island looks amazing!!!! By the way, do you guys think that it would be possible to trace the places the team travelled to for research to create berk and other places that appeared in both movies?? It would be wonderful to visit these actual spots, as if you can physically taste a glimpse of what the world of httyd would have been. |
