I'm most likely going to see it alone, although I may ask my friends to go. Depends on how much I care about them seeing me fangirl/freak out majorly. I really wanna go to the midnight premiere (it'd be my first time going to a midnight premiere- exciting right!) really bad. I'd have to get permission from my parents (even though im 18 and have had a license since i was 16 so technically it shouldnt be a problem but eh whacha gonna do).
guess who talks too much ahahahhaha :P

Would they actually do a midnight release of this movie? I don't normally see that unless it's a big blockbuster movie that tailors more towards the adult crowd (e.g. Dark Night). I have seen other movies do screenings on Thursdays starting at 8:00, sometimes a large format theater exclusive.

On the topic of IMAX, I was wondering why I didn't see the IMAX logo on the promotional posters. It makes sense after Zer0x said Fox didn't secure an IMAX contract. But everyone still expects to see it release in IMAX. ComingSoon.net actually says it will be coming out in 2D/3D and IMAX 3D.

I definitely plan to see it in IMAX, even though they don't produce any of the scenes in the native full screen 1.43:1 aspect ratio. I like it because the IMAX dual projection setup throws a crap ton of light onto the screen so you don't have to worry about the glasses making the picture look all that dark. On top of that, the Klipsch sound system they have setup at my local IMAX theater is louder than any other theater audio system I've heard. I really want to hear Powell's score soar!

I also plan to see it at another theater that houses the Dolby Atmos system which this movie will be mixed in (64.4 ch sound w/speakers on the ceiling). I may also decide to catch it in a standard 2D format to see how it compares to the 3D experience without the adverse effects of the glasses.

But it looks like coming soon is the only site, which says that it will be played in IMAX 3D.

HTTYD2 is produced in 2.4:1 Cinemascope. They will never show it in 1.43:1. If a movie has a contract for an IMAX license it will be rendered with IMAX DMR to their 8k (today it is probably even higher) format. The aspect ratio will be the same. The full size of an IMAX screen is only used by IMAX productions and movies in 1.85:1 (16:9).

I've seen Thor 2 in an Atmos cinema. This technologie is astonishing. It is extremly close to a real wave field synthesis. I've also seen a presentation of Atmos in Dolbys Headquater in germany, but they only had a 16.2 setup. I want one of the surround processors and the software so badly. :D

BTW, the ".4" doesn't stand for the number of LFE channels, there is only one mono subwoofer channel. It is the number of places of the subwoofers in a room. But is not the total numbers of subwoofers, big cinemas have much more than 4 subwoofers.

Oh, and Klipsch is probably the best speaker manufacturer for cinema speakers, because they are also used in high class homecinemas. They can't get as loud as the normal JBL speakers, but they sound amazing!

I totally agree! (I have no idea what you're talking about and I'm rather lost but it sounds interesting. I need to learn this stuff sometime)

'Oh but my darling,

For me, book the best spot in the theater weeks before the movie comes out, in a Cineplex "Ultra AVX" Show room, and go all out of merchandise like exclusive cups and all, I am going all out on this movie because I never got to see Httyd in theaters.

Toothless

I'm going with my mom (who is coming because she wants to see it too) and my two best friends and I'm going to get the Dragon popcorn and drink cup with Toothless on it all on opening night. We're going early to get jalf deceant seats and we're buying our tickets in advance online :)

I'll probably go again with my best friends if they want to see it again with our friends who aren't/don't want to go opening night (nor do I really want to go with them cuz my one friend will laugh loudly at some dumb or serious moments and talk in a normal indoor voice during the movie and it's really annoying at times if I haven't seen the movie) and i'll maybe get a 2nd cup with Cloudjumper on it :)

Maybe i'll go a 3rd time with my dad and get a 3rd cup and the 3rd dragon
