The competition this year is hard, but I think it has the potential to be the highest grossing movie this year. Of course, no one of us would care about the box office, but it could be the next step to take place next to Star Wars and LotR in the history of movies.

I know whatever happens it'll still be my fave (I still hope it makes it as highest grossing of the summer though :D )
"There is Freedom waiting for you
On the breezes of the sky
And you ask 'What if I fall?'
'Oh but my darling,
what if you fly'..."

Honestly, I see it being the exact opposite of the first film - a huge first weekend, as everybody who saw the original sees the sequel, followed by a colossal drop after that, due to a combination of bad word-of-mouth and a lack of repeat viewings.

And that will still be enough for Dreamworks to consider it a success. Oh well, such is life, I suppose.
Number of times I've watched the trailer: 18.

My pet peeve: people who refer to complete strangers by their first name. The correct ways to refer to a "John Smith" whom you have never met are Smith, Mr Smith, or John Smith. Not "John". He's not your buddy.

Was confused by this but then I saw your sig and that explained it. I'll bet you hated the new trailer too? Just a hunch.

The trailer had it's moments, of course, but it did nothing to solve any of the film's problems, and indeed, only made some of them worse (*cough*Stoick'sreactiontoValka*cough*).

I stand by my previous comment, though. Not that any of us should really give a damn about the box office takings, however, since we should only be concerned with getting a good movie.

I do care about the box office takings actually, which is why I made the thread.

Mind if I ask why? The movie's quality will not be magically changed by its box office gross, and the chances that the film will do so badly that the third film will be cancelled are roughly Valka Villain Probability. So really, unless you're in the movie business in some form (and I suppose it's possible that you are), then why do you care?

Because its interesting to me and because I like to know which films are successful and which films flop. And can you stop with that term like it actually means something, stop trying to make fetch happen.

In a perfect world, I would absolutely agree with you about the movie only mattering, and money is just money. But we all know, money is everything unfortunately. DreamWorks doesn't have the financial security to deal with a flop. Box Office results drive marketing, what types of films they are going to make next, future animation endeavors, et cetera. These films are expensive, just covering the cost of one isn't going to assure another film will be made. I especially care about films like How To Train Your Dragon not only for personal reasons but I believe it is making huge progress in the animation industry with its effects, textures, lighting, et cetera. So I definitely care about the results and I wish it only the best in theaters.

-edit-

I suppose I really just care about the company, and therefor want them to know that the audience appreciates their hard work.

Honestly, Dreamworks is a hack studio that's managed to make money through knowing what the public (in all its general stupidity and low standards) wants, plus the occasional movie that was actually good. If they fall, there are plenty of good animation studios that will fill the void (Animal Logic looks set to make a move if they can make the most of The Lego Movie), so as long as we get three good HTTYD movies, I still fail to see why we should care if the company collapses. We've paid our dues to them with our money, and their loss will be some other company's

1. Fair enough if you're interested in odd little statistic and the like. We all have our quirks.

2. I have no idea what "fetch" means in this context, so it's highly unlikely that I'm trying to make it happen. I just find "Valka Villain Probability" to be a rather useful shorthand. Pure laziness, and nothing more.
