I think a death like that would be too emotionally straining for younger audiences. I also thing gerard butler is one of the better actors in the cast and it would be a shame to get rid of him. It would make the story line more deep and dramatic if stoick died, we don't want httyd turning into game of thrones :P

I've got this whole big plot idea on how it would all go down (stoick dying and Hiccup taking over and all that)
