[...] Not the bittersweet ending I was hoping for.
Well, if DeBlois sticks true to his word, we won't have any dragons by the end of the final installment, so I guess you'll have to look forward to that. :P
Soooo basically.... HTTYD 2= Sweet. HTTYD 3= Bitter. Sweet+Bitter=Bittersweet?
i'm not very active anymore!! it's sad, but i'll come back sometimes to feel nostalgic ahaha

I think Cowell's aiming for the "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened." trope, so perhaps HTTYD 3 qualifies as bittersweet in its own right.

I LOVE THAT LINE.

But then the series would be mostly sweet... XD I'm going too overboard with this.

What you said was true. I guess it wasn't that big a twist, but it's just that I'm not very happy about Hiccup, he's lost a limb, a dad, becomes chief, has a girlfriend, has an alpha dragon. Not the bittersweet ending I was hoping for.
A very good point. It's especially odd when you consider that DeBlois has stated so many times that he was inspired by The Empire Strikes Back, which ended with things considerably worse than they were at the start for the heroes. Still, it would be a bit I feasible for a film still (at least largely) aimed at children to end with huge unresolved issues on that scale, especially when it's going to be two years until the next film.

And there is one other problem in regards to Hiccup's situation at the end, but I would like to save a few things to talk about in my actual review.
Number of times I've watched the trailer: 18.

My pet peeve: people who refer to complete strangers by their first name. The correct ways to refer to a "John Smith" whom you have never met are Smith, Mr Smith, or John Smith. Not "John". He's not your buddy.

Well, this explains track 18 from the soundtrack " two new alphas", Hiccup is the new chief and Toothless is the new alpha. Yeah, i knew Toothless would become the new alpha thanks to this track.
I love dragons, and food... ^_^

Yep so it's pretty much confirmed both alpha's of Berk and the Dragon Sanctuary die. Nice.

I was surprised by Toothless's pokemon-ish evolution in to a super powered radioactive glowy dragon too lol. I don't understand how or why, but it sure was cool, and the audience I was with seemed to think so too, judging by the applause that broke out when it happened!

It's a little-known fact that Night Furies only evolve when you trade them while they're holding the Stick of Destiny.

In all seriousness, I put it down to your standard action-movie hidden reserves type thing, with the glowing effect basically being the heat exiting Toothless' body in the easiest way (certainly explains the glowing nostrils, though I don't know enough about biology to make the slightest guess as to whether the rest would be feasible.

Also, I just realised that one of the posters showed Toothless's nostrils glowing. Neat.

The part that surprised me was the fact that there was like literally NO blood on the Alpha's tusk after he killed Valka's Bewilderbeast...
