Admittedly sometimes I think we as a fanbase will have expected so much fro Dragons 2 that when--and if-- it doesn't meet our expectations then we all are going to be disheartened. Though to answer your question I don't understand why you would only want to watch the movie if you can related to Hiccup. That isn't the entire point of the movie, no offence meant. |

The short answer is, just wait two weeks and watch the movie. Then whatever happens happens. And if your really disappointed just wait for the third |

Uh... I live in Hong Kong and the movie does not release until July 3. Even I try to find advance screenings of it beginning on June 21, I might not know if I could get to see the English version - because from what I saw, the cantonese dubbing of the movie might be horrible, basing on the trailer I saw. Just saying, if I didn't like the second one, I might not watch the third one either...and possibly quit the fanbase. I know I shouldn't be looking it this way, but for me, the reason that I love the first one is that I can relate to Hiccup so much, I felt he's like me. (Just a little secret from me, I would always pretend that I'm Hiccup by acting out his lines...weird.) In fact, when I write fan fictions, I usually put a lot of myself into Hiccup, because I think that it works. I know I should be seeing much better things like how Toothless is going to be adorable or how Hiccstrid is going to be strong in this movie. The thing for me is that I'm just looking forward to seeing Hiccup's character development in the story, but since that I see character development is closely related to how relatable a character is going to be, I just can't be sure that I would like this story, basing on the fact that I love the first one because I like Hiccup. (Does that sound right, grammatically? I'm pretty sure it's not.) |

I doubt the age will matter much... Hey, I'm almost thirty years old and I relate to Hiccup more than any other had character I've ever seen, lol. |

Sorry for saying this but I don't think you could say that. I'm still young and I don't have the experiences others have during that age. You're thirty and you probably went through that stage of life already. so you can relate to Hiccup, unlike me. What I'm looking for in stories is that how a character develops throughout the story (and realism, which HTTYD have plenty of that). If I don't understand what Hiccup's going through, I doubt that I could resonate with him. And since Hiccup is what I cared the most for in HTTYD, I'm conflicted that if the movie is going to be good for me. |

Here's a suggestion: Use a technique actors use--it's called "substitution". I'm assuming you're still in school and that you have one or more friends you hang out with. What if your friend and you get along really well, but then you start outgrowing your friend? Or your friend gets on the tennis/football/lacrosse team and you don't? Or you develop some opinions on life that your friend doesn't share? I think some of those types of feelings (or "beats") are going to be in this movie between Hiccup and Toothless--it's not just going to be Hiccup running away from being Chief. Just a thought. (or you can do what I do and identify with Toothless, heh ) |

Well, I related to Hiccup when I saw the first movie when I was like 10, (I'm 15 now) so I don't think age is really a factor in this |

I'm 28. When the first movie came out, I was 24. I still connected to it more than I've ever connected to a movie before, and even in this second film, the gang is still considerably younger than I am. Look, it's not necessarily whether or not you've gone through the same things that can make you connect to a character -- it's how well they portray it on screen that allows you to empathize or not. You say you haven't gone through some of the things Hiccup has, so you're worried you won't understand him -- but I'm pretty sure you haven't been riding dragons either, and that didn't seem to hinder you connecting to him in the first movie! Don't worry. Dreamworks knows who their audience is. They aren't going to write a movie that teenagers can't connect to. |

Yes I think httyd moved me so much because I related so much to the whole story. I felt such deep empathy towards hiccup, being and outcast. Being more creative than strong, being more smart than popular. And equality between different species. That is a theme which is very close to my heart. I've always loved animals, and i'm disgusted by the way humans treat different species just because they are not human. However, httyd2 covers other themes. Themes that I relate to less. I do love adventuring. And my dad does push me too much to be comfortable. But iv'e always had both parents. I'm sure in who I am. i don't relate to that journey of self discovery. And Drago? A dangerous nemesis? who can relate to that? not me for sure. I'm in it for the action this time round. The dragons and animation. I don't really care as much about other factors. I do like a good epic battle movie. |
