yeah, he got it as a young dragon and tortured it while it was growin up so it would only know torture. also I noticed when they were making it pull the boat they would hit the chains really hard. Metal chains like that would vibrate hard enough to hurt it so it was still being tortured . |

Especially under water the sound would get magnified and hurt the Bewilderbeast ears even more.... |

Exactly! The poor dragon. Part of me actually felt bad for him, being tortured like that. and hey! we learn how Hiccup got his scar! ![]() Though it also explains why he was afraid of dragons as a baby. |

for sure!! And I love how when she said it was all because she couldn't kill a dragon, when Hiccup said it runs in the family, she seemed to forgive him for trapping Toothless and injuring his tail. Like she fully realized that Hiccup took after her. |

I loved the part where he jumped off Toothless and Valka screamed his name. She cares about him even though she barely knows him. |

why wouldn't she? I know it's been 20 years but she is his mother. Any mother would still care for her son like that. |

It's not in the movie, which is where it needs to be. This is information that is hugely important to the plot, and you're getting it from supplementary material? No, sorry, that's just not acceptable. |
Number of times I've watched the trailer: 18. My pet peeve: people who refer to complete strangers by their first name. The correct ways to refer to a "John Smith" whom you have never met are Smith, Mr Smith, or John Smith. Not "John". He's not your buddy. | |

Similar to what happens in Bourne movie series, perhaps? First of all, even without dragons, Drago's army has an immense firepower when you go by the numbers, so we can assume his force would have been pretty considerable even without the dragons. Second, we have to realize the Bewilderbeast is also still an imperfect being (able to be distracted by one black sheep, for example). Like Toothless in the Kill Ring in the first film (when he stops his attempt to kill Stoick for a second to look at Hiccup), there is a moment of vulnerability/distraction in these dragons that you can bring out. It's like a boss battle in an old arcade shoot-'em-up where you have to discover a right timing. Now, considering manpower and the dragon's imperfection, it is pretty reasonable to predict Drago's army first "caught" the dragon using some means, probably some composite of distraction, immobilization, and sedation. But how does he reprogram the alpha's mind? When we see the beast for the first time, it's not visible -- it's underwater, and there are constant bubbles. This tells us the Bewilderbeast probably can't sufficiently breathe underwater despite its Tidal status. It's like crocodiles (who have to still breathe air, despite their primarily aquatic nature). And we've seen from Bourne movies what water torture is used for: brainwashing. Sleep deprivation and oxygen deprivation are pretty effective at breaking someone, and from there you can reprogram that person. I interpreted the introduction of Drago's secret weapon (underwater) as a sign that Drago is using techniques allegedly used as "enhanced interrogation" tactics to break the beast's sanity, and then to reprogram it (using his knowledge of controlling dragons). But this is all just estimation, and also a great way to get off-topic. Back on topic, please. |

I am totally shocked that he died! I spent months with this hunch that Valka would die, and that Stoick was totally safe because Gerard Butler was confirmed for the third movie! I mean, WHAT HAPPENED TO THAT??? I feel like such an idiot now cause I've been going around the vine telling everyone, No no, don't worry, Stoick's not going to die because he's going to be in the third movie! Gods, everyone probably thinks I'm so dumb. ![]() |
