They probably shouldn't have the wedding in the actual movie (I agree that sounds more like short territory) but I think they DO need to focus on Hiccup and Astrid more in the next film. The family Hiccup starts with Astrid will be for the rest of his life. If we're to infer from what we've heard/read, his friendship with Toothless won't be (at least in a certain sense) and I feel that the third movie needs to draw attention to this if this is the direction they end up going in.
Hiccup: Dragons are kind, amazing creatures that can bring people together
Drago: Or tear them apart...

What exactly were the hints (other than Stoick's "That's my future daughter in law!" but the word himt is plural here), I must have missed them?
thats basically what I was talking about, that one line is more than enough for someone to reasonably assume that they are engaged...
Yeah, actually that's very straight forward - why would Stoick say that if he wasn't sure about them getting married? Plus they seemed very comfortable with each other. But I guess we'll have to wait until the 3rd season of the series to learn more about their relationship.

Given that from what I've read about the books (without having *actually* read the books) Hiccup ends up a 'wise old chief' and is the one telling the story which implies his longevity. However his relationship with Toothless is very different in the books and Astrid doesn't exist in the books (although I think there's an analogous character that's not romantically involved with Hiccup). With that in mind how do you think they'll get the stories to end the same way? Will it be truly the same way or will it be the movie-fied 'same way'?

Tbh I think I'd rather see them both killed in action than to know that Hiccup grows old without his soul mate...

What do you think though? I'm super keen to hear your thoughts on this =)

That's why I'm scared for the third movie (scared for what's going to happen to all these characters) because if the dragons start leaving and those friendships between dragon and rider are broken, I will cry for days. It's like what I was thinking about the sequel after I saw it for the first time, (MAJOR spoilers in there by the way)
Spoiler: click to toggle
But also, it's almost like you have to appreciate the time you've had, however long or short it may be, with that person(/dragon). So I'd be okay either way- if the dragons leave (it'd break my heart but it would be an interesting ending) or if the dragons and riders stay together and maybe go out with a bang (together).
That probably made no sense ignore my ramblings

While I have no idea what the plot of HTTYD3 will be (Drago returns, maybe?), I just don't want it to end in the same way that the books are going to end (there were dragons when I was a boy). I feel like that might be an adequate ending for the book series (especially since it is stated on the first page of the first book), but the movies are a completely different series. The only thing shared is names and places. I think that HTTYD3 should have a definite ending, but not an ending like the books where the dragons just mysteriously disappear.

And to answer your questions:
Cate Blanchett will probably return. The second movie had an open ending and Valka will definitely be in the third film.

I don't think Hiccup and Astrid's marriage will be featured in the third film. Maybe it will be thrown into a short or maybe the third film will take place after they are married and it will just mention it. I think I would prefer that. I don't think a wedding has a proper place in the films, unless it takes place as a one or two minute scene to move the plot forward.

I think that HTTYD3 will top both of the other movies. I feel like the series will end with a band, although I hope it doesn't mean that the dragons have to disappear.
"Thank you for summing that up."

1. I'm not so sure. I looked at all the voice actors and it didn't show anything for Cate I doubt it. But they said Gerard Butler will be returning as Stoick, which I don't know what's up with that but whatever. We'll have to wait and see in 2016. -_-

2. I love Hiccup x Astrid (Hicstrid?). Yes, I ship them. But I don't want to see a wedding scene, or even a wedding short. It'll ruin the movie or whatever, I feel. I'm fine with the kissing scenes, the hugging, maybe holding hands and of course Astrid braiding Hiccup's hair [even though he doesn't like it.] If they are married, they can mention it. But I don't want to see it happen. :-/

3. I doubt it'll top the original, or the second movie. The sequel for the first movie was amazing, but in my world you can't just top the original. That probably doesn't make any sense, but yea. xP 'Course it doesn't. I suck at explaining things. xD

I would hate for HTTYD3 to end in the same manner as the pre-update Mass Effect 3: A ghostly Stoick offers Hiccup three different colored choices, all of them leading to the same ambiguous ending, albeit with a different colored background.

Not sure why so many of you are against a wedding scene. Curious to know if it's because you guys think of it as a drawn out dedicated scene that takes several minutes of screen time.

Personally, I think there will be a scene where they tie the knot in the last movie, but it will only take up half a minute or so as part of a closing montage. What comes to mind that would be appropriate is something to the likes of Sam's wedding in LotR.

Another cleaver way of showing that they married is if they do plan to show Hiccup as an older man at the very end of the film, have it implied when you see the two of them together, possibly with kids.

I don't know if any one else noticed this, but Hiccup has a ring on his right ehh.... forget what the finger's called, but.. I noticed it after only watching the movie once...
It's part of the flight suit actually.

Toothless' relationship with hiccup in the books is different but that's because he's only a baby dragon, which makes him a bit of a nuisance at times but in the latter books he's beginning to have the same friendship as in the movie, however the Windwalker(Hiccup's riding dragon) is more like movie Toothless in my eyes.

Hiccup is a wise older adult narrating the story of his childhood and Instead of Astrid there is Camicazi, who I adore to bits. Through the books Hiccup collects all these items in his adventures which happen to intertwine in a prophecy that he will be king. It's a pretty big plot that Dreamworks definitely could not put in one movie. It was said in an article somewhere that they will only share their endings as in the dragon's disappearance, besides that it'll be completely different.

For the people who think Toothless will die, I don't know for certain, but in the books it has dropped several hints that the dragons are just going back into the sea from where they came, drifting into a deep coma. You guys haven't said this, but I've seen people across the web stating that if the dragons go away they'll 'leave the fandom'. Honestly it is one of the stupidest things I've ever heard. They're going to hate httyd because it had a bittersweet ending.. I mean really?....
