Yes the film will have letterboxes on 16:9 or 4:3 screens. Cinemascope 2,4:1 (2,35:1 for TV) is the true ratio for movies. The most cinemas useses this format. The reason why IMAX have 4:3 and 16:9 screens in newer cinemas is, that IMAX cameras capture in 8000x6000pixels. Mabe you've seen the IMAX Edition from Transformers 2 or The Dark Knight. The ratio changed in some scenes from 21:9 to 16:9, these scenes are filmed with IMAX cameras (and the image quality is unbeatable). IMAX uses these unusual movie format, because with its big screens the movie is more immersive when you have to look up and down to see everything.
I see! I knew about the massive size but I didn't know that it was still in 16:9 (I didn't know the exact res they use, only that they used 70mm film). And that's an interesting fact about the DK, I didn't notice or know that either!

I'm dragging my best friend along to see it along with my mother and siblings. I'm gonna go see it in Imax and I'm paying extra for the VIP section!!! I'm reserving my tickets beforehand so I can see the first showing :D

Step 1: Take day off work.

Step 2: See first session of film.

Step 3: Go home and drown sorrows in copious amounts of alcohol.

Step 4: Rant the next day while hungover.

Okay, so steps 3 and 4 aren't guaranteed, but this topic asked for a plan and nothing more. After all, technically, I could die before the film is released and be unable to see the film, but that's unlikely, much like steps 2 and 3 being unfulfilled is unlikely.
Number of times I've watched the trailer: 18.

My pet peeve: people who refer to complete strangers by their first name. The correct ways to refer to a "John Smith" whom you have never met are Smith, Mr Smith, or John Smith. Not "John". He's not your buddy.

It will be worthy! Because the screen is still much bigger and the audio system and image quality are much better than in a normal cinema.
Thanks for all the information dove :')

The release will be different around the globe, I think I might have to wait until JULY!!! ARE THEY CRAZY?!, plus June 13th is right after my exams... so yeah, i hate the fact that the release is different here in europe.

Just a heads up: AMC Theaters don't like it when you bring lightsabers and crossbow-shields with you to see a movie, whether or not you're decked-out in cosplay. :/

I've made decision today, a very very hard decision. This day will be the last time I've watched one of the trailers until I will see the movie in cinema.
It is hard to describe, but I just want to see the movie like I've seen the first one: without any informations. I want to be blown away by every single scene and I'm afraid that won't happen when I watch the trailers to often.

This was the last image I saw :

From now on I will try to forget as much as I can about the second movie (I'm really good about that).

I will probably watch the first movie one last time before going to cinema.

That sounds like a good plan. I'm going to join you on that, actually. Bye, bye trailer.
