i would say 3D is a waste of money for some films, but films like how to train your dragon 2 are made for it. The flying sequences are so enhanced by it

Oh yeah, I agree. Normally, I think 3D is stupid and a waste, but films like this tend to work better with it. And since the first one had such praise for its IMAX 3D presentation, I was hoping to see it in that format.

The quality depends on the imax projector. There are 2 types exist; the better, and a much cheaper "worse", which means you get a headache during watching the film, I cant explain why in english :( Knew these when I met my friend who works there as an engineer-cant-translate^^ , and he explained me, why is the imax better in the western coutries, than in ours. 'Cause they could buy the better technical stuffs. Here the imax experience also awesome, but not as good as abroad.

There is only one real IMAX projector and that is the 70mm monster you can see here or its descendant. Everything else are 'Liemax' cinemas with projectors from other manufacturers.

IMAX sells also 4k projectors, but they are mainly for Highest End homecinemas ($1-2 million for installation).

With a 15, 000 watts xenon short-arc lamp, when you would look directly in it, your eye would probably begin to bleed...and of course you are blind forever. :D

Yep, as far as I know, they aren't doing IMAX 3D in the US. But don't give up hope -- the first one came into IMAX later on in the run, which is how I saw it. So maybe that will happen this time.
I'm in the US and my theater is showing it in IMAX 3D

I am kinda bummed.. the only imax near me didn't get the right format for the movie, so they aren't showing it. Dine in theater it is.
