Up until a few weeks ago when I went ahead and sought out the spoilers about Stoick dying, I had a hunch about Valka too. I don't know why, and I ended up being wrong, but I felt the same way. I suppose that Gerard Butler could technically still be in the third film via flashback though.
Come death. Come suffering. I will not live in fear. In this fleeting life where time escapes us, the path of least resistance is a slow quiet death. I'd rather burn out than fade away.

I am totally shocked that he died! I spent months with this hunch that Valka would die, and that Stoick was totally safe because Gerard Butler was confirmed for the third movie! I mean, WHAT HAPPENED TO THAT??? I feel like such an idiot now cause I've been going around the vine telling everyone, No no, don't worry, Stoick's not going to die because he's going to be in the third movie! Gods, everyone probably thinks I'm so dumb. :unsure:
I don't know what to say to help you feel better... but.. MONTHS before the movie came out.. even though some scenes I've written are super recent... this is spoilers for my own fanfiction but...

I knew (at least had a hunch) that he would die eventually for story line purposes that is.

seems like a lot of people actually thought Stoick would die (even before that person sent anon messages on tumblr) I did too.

I had a feeling Stoick would die. I've had one since DoB led us to believe or think Alvin was dead (though i don't think many of us really did believe that)

I've been hoping for a Lion King moment actually since then.

You know HIccup devastated not knowing what to do, Valka gives him the "You have the heart of a chief and soul of a dragon" speach, he realizes what has to be done fights drago and in the end takes his rightful place as chief, with his friends, and family (this includes Toothless as family) by his side and all of Berk looking up to him in respect

Knew as soon as Dean said it would be dark. Only death that made sense for the story. Any other was death for deaths sake.

Have a hunch how the 3rd will end (other than what is already known) will be interested to see if I am close at all.

Am i the only one who thinks that Toothless doesn't know he killed Stoick? Might not even know that he's dead at all?

When Toothless snaps out of his daze his body language was open, friendly, and entirely unconcerned. He didn't look guilty or even upset. Even as he was sniffing at and nudging Stoick's hand he still had a friendly expression. When Hiccup started yelling at him THAT'S when he started looking upset and confused, maybe even frightened, i need to see that scene again. Then right after he was sucked back under Alpha control so he missed the funeral entirely. My theory is that he has no memory once-so-ever of anything that happened while under alpha control. All he knew was that Hiccup suddenly turned on him for no reason.
