For some reasons, I just can't shake off the feeling that HTTYD2 will not be able to touch me like HTTYD did.
I love this thread. I think here's what mr. k.c.w. is trying to say, and you're getting the perspective of someone who's like, *old* -- When you're an adolescent, like when I was 14, you come across a certain movie that hits you between the eyes, in the heart, and, erm, a lot of other places. You *imprint* on it. It's transcendent. You obsess on it, you want to soak in it. It colors your outlook from that moment and to the end of your life. Usually if it's a science fiction or fantasy movie it changes you for the better. Gives you a tool to understand life, and handle it better, before your brain has developed enough that you can handle it as an adult.
This movie makes you feel as if you belong, and as if something belongs to you. You Understand Now. As if you've added a core component to your very being.
For mr.k.c.w, this movie is "How to Train Your Dragon."
For Dean DeBlois that movie is "The Empire Strikes Back." And he was so touched by the experience that it's inspired him to make "How to Train Your Dragon 2."
Hells yeah, I'm seeing it in the theaters.
That, is what makes us Dragons fans.

Yep, that's probably why I'm obsessed with How To Train Your Dragon. It really, like you said, *imprinted* on me. HTTYD also inspired me to do more theatrical and drama related things. I also became interested in voice work.

Since there are people doubting whether or not to see it on the big screen -- I'd encourage you to, if you can! I saw the first one in theatres ten times, and once in IMAX. I basically never watch movies in IMAX, just not worth the cost generally. But HTTYD was such a good theatrical experience I was more than happy to get in as much big screen time as possible! And from what I've heard, the second one is also impressive that way. Don't miss out!

It's not the problem of whether seeing it on the big screen, it's the problem of fearing that the movie can't connect to me like the first one did.

Oh.
Also, on an related note(Well, technically not that much), it's June over here in HK already. So should I celebrate that we made it through that long or should I be sad because A. the problem that I have, and B. the movie is not going to release until 20 days after the US release?

I was scrolling through the forum topics and I realized that no one has brought up this problem. Sure there's one that talks how bittersweet is going to be seeing the characters grow up but nobody actually brought up the point that I made above.

I got to see an advanced screening of the movie yesterday and let me just say a few non-spoilery things:
1. See it in theaters. It will vastly improve the experience.
2. Relatability to the characters shouldn't be a problem. Their relationships are well written and should be understandable to everyone (except maybe tiny kids). I was pleasantly surprised in a few parts.
3. If you liked the first one, you'll definitely love this one. I won't go so far as to say it was a perfect film, as it did have one or two flaws, but it's still really fantastic and fun to watch.
That is all.

Niiice. I have a relative who's quite a voice actor fan. Maybe she'll be adding your name to the list of people she cheers for soon!

Absolutely. And it's a very important one.

By soon, you mean in 20 years of time or uh...never?
What I meant by taking interest in voice work, acting, script writing, directing and all the other aspect of theatrical and drama related things, is that I would try to figure out what they actually are and join interest classes of them. So having them as potential careers isn't my top priority. Besides, I'm only 14. By the standards set in one of the laws in HK, I can't work unless I'm one more year older.
