He's suggesting that there's some racism inherent in making the only darker-skinned character (voiced by an actor of African descent no less) the villain. While I think that's reading too much into things, I guess I can sort of see how somebody sensitive to that sort of thing could get that impression.
Yeah, even though I'm not African American, I would love to see a few more in movies, I don't see them a lot. I don't think it's being racist, it just never really happens. Oh well, this is kinda off- topic.

It doesn't matter what the intent was tbh, even something unintentionally offensive is still offensive... if people are bothered by it they have every right to be, if you're not bothered by it you have every right to be as well, but that doesn't mean you should brush off anyone else's legitimate complaints as "reading too much in to things"

Personally I don't really care but I totally understand how people could get upset over it

I don’t think it was intended as a “commentary on race”. I’m sure they didn’t specifically say “let’s make him black because he’s the bad guy”. It’s just an issue of problematic representation.

Love your comments, thank you for bringing the sense here...

These are really giving me hope that this movie will indeed be a very good one. Even that one mediocre review (the one where he fawned all over "Frozen" I think) admitted that he wasn't that big a fan of the first one but that this one he liked better. I'm also glad that I was right about them leaving a lot of the darker elements out of the the previews and trailers they've shown thus far. I think I'm even more eager to see this now then I was before, and that's saying something.
How can anyone think Frozen is a better movie than HTTYD

Yes, that is totally what that hint in the review means.

In all seriousness, that heavily-implied-to-the-point-where-it-may-as-well-have-just-been-stated spoiler was what I was leaning towards, and while I ideally wanted different specifics, this should still make for some very juicy drama.
Number of times I've watched the trailer: 18.

My pet peeve: people who refer to complete strangers by their first name. The correct ways to refer to a "John Smith" whom you have never met are Smith, Mr Smith, or John Smith. Not "John". He's not your buddy.

I guess Cate Blanchett thinks she can't sing :/
