I have doubts about this scene:

The animation, particles, deformation of the snow could be so much better. Toothless' tail do not affect the snow, he little irregularities on the surface just appears, the same with Hiccup falling into the snow. The snow is to dusty, it should have been more solid. In GotNF they did it much better in my opinion.

I feel the same way, but I have to say that sometimes snow does appear in this way. Im quite used to snow (Norway), and on very cold days the new snow is very soft and like dust, you can almost blow it away. And since this is supposed to be Svalbard it is probably cold enough to make such conditions :)

I can't really answer this question... Because I was ten when I watched the first movie, and I was in a bad spot in life. I connected with Hiccup in a different way because of what was going on, even though I felt like unsocial outcast too. It was a mix of my personality and my circumstances. Since I was younger for the first movie and still connected, I don't think there will be a problem for older Hiccup. He's still his dorky, sarcastic self, and as long as that remains,(which it seems if it does) then the character will still have the same charm.

In Utah as well, except it's caused by the desert winds to the west. When it gets to that state they call it "powder" and skiiers love it. As for the other possible irregularities, I wll see the movie on the Imax screen and probably get a better perspective on your observation.

I'm not talking about Hiccup. I'm talking about how I can relate to the things that he's going through when I'm not that old.

I doubt the age will matter much... Hey, I'm almost thirty years old and I relate to Hiccup more than any other had character I've ever seen, lol.
Sorry for saying this but I don't think you could say that. I'm still young and I don't have the experiences others have during that age. You're thirty and you probably went through that stage of life already. so you can relate to Hiccup, unlike me.

What I'm looking for in stories is that how a character develops throughout the story (and realism, which HTTYD have plenty of that). If I don't understand what Hiccup's going through, I doubt that I could resonate with him. And since Hiccup is what I cared the most for in HTTYD, I'm conflicted that if the movie is going to be good for me.
if you could connect to the first movie at a younger age you will be able to connect to the second movie at a younger age. Time is relative and the first movie came out 4 years which means you had to be younger than hiccup. But besides that his issues arent just going to happen because hes 20, bad things or emotional stress can happen at anytime in your life. I think you are focused too much on the fact that hes gotten older, youve gotten older too. And if worst comes to worst the movie will grow on you as you age and you begin to understand his age and the feelings that come with it (which i can tell you from experience a lot of the time its realizing that you arent magically a fully matured adult at 18 and not all adults are wise or smart). I think the plot is going to be similar to the first movie just different circumstances as well. Dad wants hiccup to be something he doesnt want to be plain and simple. If youve ever questioned what your future will be like then i think you will relate to this movie. Nobody here was conquering wild dragons and learning how to fly on their backs engineering new mechanical tails, yet we sympathized with him.

But I watched have only began watching HTTYD six months ago, and I'm 14 now, so you're not completely right. Though, you're right about me questioning my future so if what you're saying is true, I may be able to relate you.

Though, from the looks of it, you haven't been catching up with HTTYD2 news at lot, right?

i haven't watched any of the valka and hiccup clips, but i watched the first five mins and all the other ones (hiccastrid clip, dragon feat. etc). I also had the one thing spoiled for me by a wonderful anon on tumblr. im pretty certain the core element of the movie is going to be hiccup figuring out himself, which is what you go through in highschool and college. Nobody ever really finishes understanding themselves completely or what they fully want from life. The uncertainty of life is going to be a big part of the film. I know when i was 14 i was having some issues really understanding myself and i was worried that i would never know what i wanted to do, more so than i do now. Not wanting to grow up and accept responsibility and feeling incapable of ever doing so.
