I'm convinced that Stoick will die in Dragons 2, for quite a few reasons:
1. Dean DeBlois watched all the Star Wars films after he decided he was going to take on Dragons 2. My dad knows a lot about Star Wars; basically, he's the equivalent of my obsession with Dragons, except it's with Star Wars. I've asked him to look out for references, and one of them he noticed was that Obi-Wan was killed by Darth Vader in a duel. Obi-Wan= Stoick Drago= Darth Vader.
2. The track 'Stoick Saves Hiccup' is immediately after 'Hiccup Confronts Drago', which I'm assuming is when Stoick and Drago fight. The former track sounds like a funeral, because there's an organ playing at the beginning. 'Stoick's Ship' furthers my suspicions. The Vikings put their dead in their ships. I'm assuming that this funeral was only reserved for Vikings of high status; i.e. the Chief.
3. It hasn't been confirmed yet if Gerard's going to be signing on for Dragons 3. Of course, the reason for this could just be that we've got a little while before it comes out (2 years! :ermm: ) but this could also suggest that Gerard's not going to be signing on because he's too busy with other films; in this case, they'd have to kill Stoick off, and the most obvious way is to have him killed by Drago, as a sign of how powerful he is.
4. 'For The Dancing And The Dreaming' seems to me like Stoick's death song. Now, it doesn't seem like Dean's fond of the phrase 'kill your darlings', because if he was, he'd have killed Toothless off in the first film or something.
5. Hiccup would be forced to take the role of Chief.
Remember, these are just my predictions. They're not confirmed, I'm just voicing my opinion. Do you agree with my points? ^_^

Please change the title in something else. People could think that this is a confirmed information.

Spoliers because I'm directly answering the question rather than merely speculating:

Come death. Come suffering. I will not live in fear. In this fleeting life where time escapes us, the path of least resistance is a slow quiet death. I'd rather burn out than fade away.

I honestly don't believe he will die, but I have accepted the possibility.

What bothers me is that people are claiming that Toothless will kill Stoick while he's under a trance. I really don't think this will happen. It would be just too dark for a kids film to have a good character kill another good character. I know many people argue that "Well, it's not really for kids, it's for teens." That might be true, but if it was, then why would they be making happy meal toys, action figures for kids, and games for children if it's for a older audience? Also, who would want to see Toothless murder Stoick? Do you really think kids would want to see that? I'm sorry, but I refuse to think that's how Stoick's death might play out. If he is to die, he should die protecting his people, not be killed by his friend.

I'm not convinced he will die, but I've prepared myself if it'll happen. I don't think we should really be speculating about it, it'll only make us sad.:(
"There's something you must remember when riding a dragon. There's no manual, no safety harness, no guarantees when you're on one of these beasts. All you have is the wind in your hair, and the clothes on your back. The only thing between you and that dragon is your saddle. You need to hold onto it for dear life, as that creature takes you the skies. That, is dragon riding."

I didn't read KentuckyWildcat's spoiler, but [maybe a spoiler? Does it count if it's right there on Wikipedia?] Stoick's not going to die. Gerard Butler, Stoick's voice actor, is confirmed for the third movie.

(I don't think this counts as a spoiler because I'm not saying what will happen, I'm saying what's not going to happen, and because it IS right there on the Wikipedia page, but if it does count, I'll change it.)
My other fandoms summed up in gifs:

Yup. It says on every site that Gerard Butler will return for the third film in 2016.

And also, even though the film is growing up, it's still for kids and I don't think they'd kill Hiccup's father.
Me? An otaku? Pfff.

Yes I do like dragons if you're wondering. Doesn't seem like it from my profile pic n signature, I know, but I do.

The ship thing aint for special vikings, they do it with every allied viking that they can grab, they put the most beloved items of the viking and send him out, the items are believed to go with him to Valhalla, though the less strong vikings, those who didn't battle as good as the best, they won't recieve a boat as good as a chief or a berserk would have.
I still believe that he will die and that his ship is for the funeral though :P
