Yep. That's exactly what I mean with that picture. Before he said that he spun in a 360 turn and if you look closely their's TWO FIRE SWORDS!! One in his hand and ONE ON HIS LEG on the clasp where he keeps his fire sword. What do you say to that hictooth? |

I've uploaded a picture of what I think you mean, and it does look a bit like ![]() ![]() I haven't watched HTTYD2 for a while, so can anyone else help explain this? Is it an animation error? |

If I'm not mistaken don't for some movies and shows animators tend to have a few different stock models of the characters around for use to save time. Like for example one with Hiccup with the wing suit out, one with it in, and a separate model for his helmet and inferno etc etc. If so that would explain or give an idea of how the mistake was/could've been made. I'm no animator though (just enjoy the process) so only guessing here. Someone with actual experience and knowledge about the techniques used in 3D animation will have to say how this mistake could have more probably been made. |
See you in the skies Dragon Rider! The Dragon Root:Thing what I wrote. Is Toothless Evil? :Me possibly being crazy, but fun. The BerkCast The HTTYD podcast, you should listen. | |

A character's mesh will have all relevant body items attached to it, or "stuck" in places wherever it's used. These may be items in hand, holstered items, helmets. They're turned visible and invisible when required. Here's a video game example. The model for Link, when ripped from the game's files, is seen to wield and holster the sword and shield at the same time. One is turned visible and the other invisible whenever the item is put away/taken out. This is meant to simplify the animating process and reduce headaches: ![]() And yes, sometimes they have several meshes when the inherent details of the model must change. It could have been the case with the wing suit. I'm certain this kind of thing is also done in feature animation. My guess is that someone forgot to turn off the holstered Inferno when the scene was set to render. This isn't the only scene with such a mistake. ![]() |
