I'm not sure how much a spoiler this is going to be since we had a thread where we discussed it, but I'm playing it safe here. The short takes place before HTTYD 2 obviously, but there are a few short moments with the "Mid-Teens" gang. I'm assuming these moments are also pre-HTTYD2 because the dragon racing arena is not as advanced as it is in that movie and it's implied that Hiccup is not acting cheif yet. The majority of the short however, we are with the original designes from the first movie.

Another thing which I'm not sure how "spoiler-y" it is but I won't take the risk, is that it's an episode of the TV show. Don't expect any GOTNF or any of the other shorts quality of animation, they even have the same cast as the show(This time however, Ruffnut's voice is the same as her season 2 voice).But as an episode, it does a good job of finishing up the "15 year old gang" plots and move into the older gang part next season(I hope).

The way the explain how the sport came to be was good, though there is a mistake where Stoick points out the black sheep is 5 points where in the movie it's 10, but maybe it's a later addition. I also liked how Hiccup had to act cheif for a few days which showed how insecure he is about it and how he barly has any control over the villiage, which kind of explaines why he is trying to get away from it in HTTYD 2. There were barly any dragons moments in the short but that's not a bigie.
