Megumi had a white-knuckled grip on the Nightmare's talons. it gave him some comfort that Kuro and Shiro were flying below him. He was fairly sure the two of them together could catch him if he fell. But anything could go wrong, and he really didn't like being cargo.

"I want to be on its back next time," he said in answer to Javon's question.

He heard Gojo chuckle beside him and glared at the man. He looked as calm and relaxed as if he were laying in bed. These dragon riders were insane. Especially that one and those twins. He didn't even want to know what shenanigans they were up to to keep the Smokebreaths interested in chasing them.

"His," Javon corrected. The single word was not spoken loudly, or in patent anger; but the soft, low tone was intense and firm, leaving zero space for debate. The viking would allow no disrespect toward his dragon.

A few seconds passed before he spoke again. "But yeah, I prefer being on his neck, usually. Feels a little safer and seems a little more comfortable, but that might just be because I'm more used to it. This is fine, though, until he decides he wants me there." Javon closed his eyes briefly, smiling that tender smile reserved solely for his fiery friend.

The rock drew closer on either hand, and the midday light seemed to increase in strength while they climbed. After several yards, they emerged behind Fishlegs and Meatlug into the clear, warm air under the broad blue sky. It was a relief, but Javon was no longer smiling. He was looking around for the twins and the Smokebreaths, bracing himself for another onslaught from the furious little dragons.

Firelash was taking no chances either. With a blast of heat and a deep, rushing roar that blended with his own, most of his body above his passengers burst into flame. Javon just had time to half-jokingly warn the other two "Watch your hair!" before a quick maneuver from the Nightmare tossed him awkwardly to the dragon's neck. It took the viking a couple moments to process the change; it lacked the usual finesse. But soon he was settled and the other two repositioned more securely in Firelash's talons, and with a faintly-shaky "Hang on!" to Gojo and Megumi, the four were on the move again.

Once again, if you need to take control of Firelash to do something, feel free. :)

Megumi cringed in the dragon's grip. The heat above radiated to his body and made him hyper-aware that one stray flame could set him on fire along with the dragon.

His worries were soon shattered by the sound of the twins screaming. Their Zippleback burst out of the clouds and barreled at them with the swarm of angry dragons on its tail. Judging by the way they were yelling, the dragon had stopped listening to them and was doing its own thing. Megumi didn't know whether that was scarier than the twins controlling it or not. The dragon dove back towards the cave. He didn't understand why until a blue shape darted through the air, flying in and out of cloud cover, circling the Smokebreaths. That one, the Skrill from earlier, was calling the shots, and the Zippleback was just following orders.

As soon as Gojo caught sight of Raiju, he could tell he was flying with a purpose. "We should stay out of the way," he called. When his dragon locked in like the apex predator he was, things tended to get messy.

Barf and Belch slipped back through the crack into the cave, and the Smokebreaths swarmed in after them. Raiju dove after them, zipping past the others, and making Gojo's hair stand on end. At the last second, he thrust out his wings to their full extent, slowing himself so he could wait right outside the path of escape. A few seconds later, Barch came scrambling out, and Raiju didn't waste a second. Before the angry little beasts could get out, he finally let loose all that pent up electricity, pouring it into the cave. With all that metal surrounding them and the sheer amount of lightning Raiju let loose, all the Smokebreaths surely got an unpleasant jolt to their systems.

Gojo winced. Hopefully those little guys were tough, but he didn't see them getting up and continuing their pursuit anytime soon. He glanced over at Megumi, who was staring at the scene in wide-eyed horror. "They'll be fine," Gojo tried to sound reassuring, even though he wasn't so sure himself.

Raiju let out a long and fearsome roar, ending it with a furious snort, before turning around and flapping over to Firelash. He clearly wanted to check on Gojo, but the white-haired rider was hesitant to touch his dragon right after that display of power. Unfortunately, Firelash seemed to have other plans. Raiju positioned himself below the other dragon, and the Nightmare dropped Gojo onto his Skrill's back. Gojo winced on impact out of anticipation, but all his felt was the dragon's scales. Thank goodness. He'd gotten all the electricity out of him. He climbed into the saddle, ready to leave this death trap far behind.

As the echoes of the thunderclap from Raiju's blast died away, Firelash extinguished himself with a parting roar toward the cave before turning to fly back toward their camp. Javon let out a huge sigh of relief; he wanted nothing more to do with angry, wild Smothering Smokebreaths for a long, long time. Thankfully, the flock didn't seem to be interested in pursuing them. Yet, the cautious part of his mind added. "Shut up!" the viking viciously hissed at it under his breath. He refused to consider the possibility for the time being.

With an inquiring rumble, Firelash turned his head to look back at his rider. Javon smiled apologetically, reaching forward with his left hand to scratch gently between the Nightmare's eyes.

"Not you, Firelash," he said. "You're good. I just sometimes-"

He was interrupted by a Gronckle's wingbeat and a question called over the rushing of the wind in their ears as Fishlegs and Meatlug drew near.

"So, who's Firelash's prisoner? I saw him with you guys in the cave, but didn't have time to ask about him then."

Javon was momentarily surprised; he had almost forgotten about Megumi, still clutched in his dragon's talons, and hadn't considered that Fishlegs didn't, couldn't, know what had transpired during their little retrieval mission gone talons-up.

"O-Oh, uh, Megumi. But," the dark-haired viking glanced back over his shoulder toward the cave, "I don't think we have time now, either. We'll explain it all once we get back to camp. Let's move, quickly!"

The last sentence was a shout to the other Riders, shortly echoed by a roar from the Monstrous Nightmare.

Megumi did not enjoy the ride in the Nightmare's talons whatsoever. When they finally reached the apparent campsite Javon had mentioned and Firelash plopped him on the ground, he just sank to his knees. The terror that had fueled him during the battle and subsequent escape quickly drained from his body and exhaustion hit. Kuro and Shiro landed beside him, sniffing and whining. He let them lift his arms with their snouts for pats even though he felt lazy about it.

The others landed as well, and Fishlegs immediately went to get the fish he'd wrapped up. "I'm sure it's cold by now. . . ." he said with a sigh.

"I don't think any of us care right now," Gojo said over his should as he sauntered over to Megumi. He'd noticed the kid's posture and knelt in front of him. "You good, kid? Feeling air-sick?"

Speaking felt hard, so Megumi just nodded a little. Whether he was nodding in answer to the first or second question, he wasn't even sure.

Gojo patted him on the shoulder. "Just take it easy for a bit. I think we all need to after that."

"Yeah," Javon agreed heartily, having dismounted and grabbed a couple large pieces of the roasted meat. "Right now, I doubt I'd care much if this was raw! Let's all have a bite" he took one as large as he could, and, with his mouth full, continued, "to eat and a little time to breathe, then we'll talk." Without moving his head, he shifted his gaze significantly to Megumi, then turned his full attention to the food.

Fishlegs, however, was too preoccupied with Megumi's evidently-tame Smothering Smokebreaths to think about eating. His excited words tumbled over themselves as he rapidly interrogated the lad all about their meeting, their training, their relationships with him, with each other, and with the other Smokebreaths, their habits, and everything else he could think to ask.

It didn't take long for Javon to get tired of the Ingerman's incessant inquiries, and with a number of gestures, asked his dragon if he couldn't do something to quiet the eager rider down. Firelash decided that a good way to accomplishing this would be to roar loudly and spit a stream of fire over the Gronckle rider's head, and promptly executed this plan.

Fishlegs jumped with a yelp, and spun to face the large Nightmare, who was wearing a smug expression which perfectly mirrored that of his rider. Javon swallowed the last bite of his fish, then smirked.

"Okay, so now that you're not talking, maybe you'd like to give Megumi there a chance to actually answer your questions? Instead of asking more at the speed of a hunted Night Fury?"

Gojo had grabbed a few pieces of food for himself and some for Megumi while Fishlegs was running his mouth. He sat next to the kid and munched happily as he watched the proceeding antics with a smirk.

Megumi, on the other hand, stared down at the food in his hand, his brain overloading from all the questions and eventually tuning them out. It took Javon mentioning his name to bring him back to earth. He stiffly turned towards the Vikings, his mind blanking. "Um . . ." Thoughts slowly began forming again. Right. The stocky blond one wanted to know about his dragons. "I found Kuro and Shiro injured and separated from their flock. Helped them get better, and they became attached. They got me into the Smokebreath cave, and, I guess, made the others agree not to eat me."

"How'd you get here in the first place, kid?" Gojo asked.

Megumi turned to look at the white-haired man lounging casually beside him. He doubted any of the Vikings knew information that could send him down a dark path, but this guy did. He probably wouldn't do anything with it if he really was the infamous Satoru Gojo, but uncertainty crept into Megumi's heart. He did not want to risk going back to his old life.

"Shipwreck," was all he decided to say even though he was sure they would drag all the details out of him eventually.
