Fishlegs raised his index finger as if asking permission to speak. "Well, it's most likely fine, but on the off-chance the Defenders of the Wing are in trouble, I wouldn't want to put a kid in danger. He'd be safer at the Edge." "What's the Edge?" grimaced Megumi. "Home base," Gojo explained shortly. "Is anyone there?" "Yeah, there's several Dragon Riders who stayed behind." "Well, I think bringing him with us is an absolutely horrendous and horrible and terrible and . . . bad idea!" Tuffnut crossed his arms and stuck his nose in the air. "He's a little thief and should pay for his crimes! Take him to the Edge and lock him up in pens!" "However," Ruffnut fingered her chin thoughtfully. "if he came along, we could use his thieving skills to our advantage to cause glorious, Lokish chaos." Tuffnut shaped his mouth in an "o" as he considered this important point. "On second thought, welcome aboard, Meg!" If looks could kill, Megumi's gaze would've sliced Tuffnut in half. "I'm not helping you cause problems." |

Javon scowled at the two Nuts. It was a serious question, not a time for their nonsense. He then looked at Fishlegs. "True enough. On the other hand, though, the Defenders could, if they were willing, take him under their, er, wing," he smirked at the unintentional word play, "and teach him everything he could ever need to know about self defense, honorable conduct, and so forth." He paused for a moment, thinking, then continued, "Also, remember what Astrid said last night. When the Dragon Hunters come calling, the Edge could quickly become very unsafe. " I guess my vote would be to keep him with us for now." The dark-haired viking's gaze shifted to the Skrill Rider. "What do you think, Gojo?" |

"Mmm," Gojo turned his gaze on the spiky-haired kid. "What does Megumi think?" The boy looked at him. Well, if he was being given a say, may as well take the opportunity. "I'd rather stay with people I've worked beside than people I don't know." "There you go," Gojo looked back a Javon. "I vote Spike comes with us." Megumi grumbled under his breath at the nickname, but Gojo had just given him what he wanted, so he couldn't complain too much. |

"Alright then, I guess that's decided," Javon looked around again. "Everyone finished eating?" "Except for Tuffnut," Ruffnut declared. "Wait, I'm no-" The female twin, smirking, abruptly stuffed a stray pinecone left from the firewood into her brother's mouth, then broke into a hysterical fit of laughter at his startled face. The male Thorston made a couple attempts to chew, then spit it straight into his sister's face before tackling her to the ground. There they tussled, rolling around, almost into the still-smoldering remains of the fire at times, and trading insults in the typical Nut fashion. Their dragon, always helpful, began to bicker with himself as well. Javon sighed, though watching them, he couldn't quite erase the ghost of a smirk from his lips. He wondered how long they'd be at it, but seeing no indication that they'd be stopping in the immediate future, turned to Gojo and his Skrill. "How's Raiju doing? Do you think you two will be ready to fly soon? We've already been here far longer than we ought; this was supposed to be a quick stop." |

Gojo scooted backward until he was close enough to touch his dragon's tail. Then he poked it incessantly. "You heard him. Ready to get back in the air, big boy?" Raiju tore his tail away and whipped it at his rider. Gojo ducked out of the way with a smirk. Then, reluctantly, Raiju got to his feet and stretched his wings. He went over to Gojo and started shoving him with his snout until Gojo got up too and patted his head. "I take that as a yes." He turned to look at Megumi. "You wanna ride with me?" The boy looked up at him and shrugged. He knew he'd have to ride with someone, and he doubted he'd enjoy it with any dragon. "As long as I'm not dangling." "As long as you're good." Gojo winked. He had no intention of making the kid dangle from a dragon's talons again, and he figured Megumi knew that. |

Javon looked long and hard at the Skrill, trying to discern whether the blue dragon was really feeling ready to fly again, or was just humoring his rider. He could not. The next leg of their journey was easily as long as the first, perhaps longer; the viking was concerned about the possibility of overtaxing their dragons after a long flight and a subsequent trying battle. Still, from what he knew of Raiju's personality, he thought the storm dragon would likely just leave to rest somewhere if Gojo tried to get him to go before he was ready. Still... "You sure?" Javon wasn't actually certain whether he was asking the dragon or the rider, but the question felt necessary, regardless. As he awaited an answer, the twins rolled closer again, still scrabbling, and the viking turned to his dragon, now standing a short distance away, having gone to get another drink from the nearby stream. "Would you mind doing something to break that up?" he asked, gesturing broadly to the Nuts and their dragon, who was still snapping at himself. Firelash did not, and awkwardly leaping to a low, clumsy hover in the air, lit himself on fire and roared at the top of his voice, also sending a gout of fire into the cloud of gas Barf had just breathed into Belch's face. This brought the quarrel up short; the twins froze, staring up at the Monstrous Nightmare from where they lay on the ground, and Barf and Belch dropped their heads, momentarily stunned by the explosion. Unfortunately, to judge by the now-too-familiar screech that came echoing down the ceaseless wind, it also bestirred the wild Smokebreaths again. For a couple seconds, everything stood still, Javon staring toward the sound in dismay; then mentally berating himself, he scrambled wildly for his bow, laying beside the fire, and his dragon's saddle, spread next to the watercourse. "Okay, never mind! Time to go! NOW!! Why do I never listen to myself?! Of all the muttonheaded idiots! 'Shut up,' wise corner of mind that said it was only a temporary reprieve. 'Shut up,' indeed! RAGHHH!!" This last exclamation was simply a wordless roar, pure frustration given voice. By this time, the viking had reached the saddle and Firelash had touched down next to it, extinguishing only his neck. As quickly as he could, Javon made the simple leathern pad fast, and within several seconds, was in position on the dragon's neck. Then they were in the air, facing the others, keeping watch for the wild Smokebreaths and looking to see if they were needed in any way to help anyone. |
