Not a volcanic eruption, post war scene. XD It was inspired off some scenery in War horse. This is the aftermath of a war but it may not look like it. XD Those are flames and ashes rising into the air.

So it's a bird representing peace/hope/liberty? (I like arts with a story behind)
Maybe you can a torn off burnt flag somewhere in the corner to make the background more war like?? Just a suggestion :)

Yes that's exactly what it means. A world destroyed by man but animals still stand strong despite being claimed by the humans. ^^'
