Generally but that isn't always the case. I said this in another thread but they did literally the exact same thing for Toy Story 3, except on a bigger scale. There were free screenings NATIONWIDE that cut off the last half hour. I went to one. This was about three months before the movie even came out. And thats not the first time a studio has done that either. It is just as much used to generate buzz as it is to see if audiences will react to it positively. I think everyone needs to calm down about this, the screening was open to relatively very few people considering how many people there are that are going to see the movie total. And also everyone seems to be forgetting that the general public, that is, the people who aren't like us and spend all day on the grapevine and tumblr and twitter reading as much about the movie as we can, don't even know this screening happened and aren't interested in going out of their way to look up spoilers anyway. Not really to that extent, its more just to see whether or not the movie will have good word of mouth, will be generally positively received, etc. Right now I doubt they're thinking about their Oscar chances that much, they're primarily just concerned with making sure the movie isn't going to be a flop first. |

I find it hard to believe that any HTTYD movie could be a flop...granted there are things in this one I'm not overly excited for, but it's still going to be amazing, I'm sure |

After the overwhelmingly positive reaction to that screening (from what I've heard), I don't think the marketing team at Fox is concerned its going to be a flop either. See how that works? ![]() |

Haha, yea I get it. But there are probably some like me who didn't need to see the screening to know that ![]() |

Funny you say it's an hour and 45, because movies work in a 3 act system, and the first hour will just about cover act one and two. In the first film, the last 25-30 minutes was the Red Death sequence, so this one hour thing will most likely end right as it gets into the main action sequences. |
