Toothlessnightfury wrote an absolutely brilliant analysis of this very subject. Thank you Sir! http://toothlessnightfury.blogspot.com/ ... shion.html Also I was wondering why some of his crew had French accents. I think they're Franks. Here's the world at that time: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1000 https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Europe_1000.jpg Here's where Berk is in the books: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hebrides And here is an idea on where the series might end in the movies: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leif_Erikson "old world" vs. "new world" Ooo. Much to think about. |

Some had the theory that the reason why Night Furies are so rare is because they are from North America. Just a little theory... |

The events of HtTYD occurred around the beginning of the 1000's. Nazi Germany was in the 1900's. Plus he was said to come from "some far away land"; not sure if the modern-day German region counts as "far away". |

I would think he came from somewhere down in south Europe, somewhere around the mediterranean. The sun on his belt might symbolize that he comes from a place far from what we see as the viking-world. I think his army consists of slavic folkgroups and the sami people (which I also think Eret is from). Because of this I think he may have climbed up East-Europe, and then down the Scandinavian peninsula, where he gathered the sami people. From there he went by boat up to Svalbard, where Valka is. ![]() My theory ![]() |

More good info. Thanks much! As I said, the Pattern Recognition Engine(TM) has started working on Movie 3, and Drago is an important piece here. |

And a good one at that. (Wondering if the French-accent people were Saxons instead of Franks, mixed in with Slavs and Sami) |

This question's a bit tangential, but it does relate to the topic: is there actually anything in the films or TV series that confirms that they take place on Earth (well, an alternate Earth, but you get the idea)? Offhand, I think the books have plenty of moments that confirm this, but I can't think of anything for the film-verse. I'm just saying that it's possible that we're thinking about this all wrong in trying to pin Drago to a real-world location. |
Number of times I've watched the trailer: 18. My pet peeve: people who refer to complete strangers by their first name. The correct ways to refer to a "John Smith" whom you have never met are Smith, Mr Smith, or John Smith. Not "John". He's not your buddy. | |
