Stoick's a dead man walking. If he doesn't die in this film, then he'll die in the next one. It's an obvious and necessary part of Hiccup's coming of age, becoming the chief, blah, blah, blah. Dreamworks have killed off a few characters before. The tortoise from Kung Fu Panda and Fiona's father in Shrek the Third come to mind. So there's no reason they can't do it again. |
Number of times I've watched the trailer: 18. My pet peeve: people who refer to complete strangers by their first name. The correct ways to refer to a "John Smith" whom you have never met are Smith, Mr Smith, or John Smith. Not "John". He's not your buddy.

Well if you don't count all the bad guys I don't remember any MAIN characters yet who have died in DreamWorks films. And I'm suspecting that Stoick might die in HTTYD2 and I am (hoping) Snotlout dies in HTTYD3. Now understand Snotlout is my favorite character ever and seeing him die would be heart breaking but I want him to die saving his friends or Berk. Just to keep with Book 11 continuity. |

Hey now that's a book spoiler- shhhhhhhhh If Stoick dies i hope it's at least valiant and with a bang! I don't think Stoick necessarily has to die in order for Hiccup to be chief... He can just retire, which we know is what he wants to do at the beginning of the movie. That's why Hiccup leaves for a while. I heard some think Tuff will die. I feel that would be super tragic... I don't know why. Maybe just because he's young, and depends so heavily on Ruff. |

UM YEAH. If either twin lost the other we would see a Fred-George thing going on. It would be heartbreaking on all accounts. |

To me, that would just be strange to kill Tuff. He's good for a funny one-liner, and that's pretty much the extent of his role in the story. His death wouldn't really add much depth in my opinion. In order for the giant battle sequence to have any actual stakes and sense of realism, I maintain that a character should die, but they need to be someone closer to Hiccup for it have a real impact. That leaves Toothless, Astrid, Stoick, and Valka as possibilities. Since we already somewhat know the ending of the trilogy, the distant future is murky for Toothless, but he won't die in this movie. He's the real draw of the franchise for a lot of people, and they won't do an entire movie without him. Similarly, there's only the slimmest of chances that anything happens to Astrid just because the younger generation of aspiring heroes dies almost exactly never in the type of saga this trilogy is supposed to be modeled after. Not to mention that she's practically been given equal billing with Hiccup in most of the promotional material/merchandise, and I'd imagine DreamWorks would like to keep their strong female hero in the picture for maximum marketability. That leads me to believe that either Stoick or Valka die, maybe even both of them if things get darker than I expect. Stoick dying would force Hiccup to truly become a leader in a way that his retirement simply couldn't. That would advance the story, so I see it as a possibility. Valka is also possible for the emotional impact it would have for Hiccup to lose his mother so soon after finding her again. Not to mention that I just can't shake my feeling that she's a tragic character. We'll see in about 2 months whether I'm right or not. |
Come death. Come suffering. I will not live in fear. In this fleeting life where time escapes us, the path of least resistance is a slow quiet death. I'd rather burn out than fade away.

A Lion King moment. meaning that Hiccup is down on the ground ion his knees. In front of him is Stoick who was sadly killed in action. Hiccup is devastated and doesn't know what to do. Berk is almost complexly destoryed. Fishlegs asks "Um, What do we do now Hiccup?" Hiccup deviation in his voice says "I-I don't know." He looks up to Astrid with teary eyes. Astrid puts a comforting hand on his shoulder but has no words. She just hugs him in hopes to comfort him. "You know what your father would want you to do Hiccup." She finally says quietly. "I know..." Admits Hiccup, "But what if I'm not ready?" "Hiccup," Valka says coming and putting a mother's touch hand on his shoulder, "You have the heart of a chief, and the soul of a dragon. Your father would be very proud. And you will make a great chief. Hiccup now knows what he must do. He rises from his crouched position. He stands and looks at the rest of the Vikings. His friends. His family. His home. Even Eret. Everyone looks to him. He is standing in this totally awesome Epic dramatic pose. Like this: ![]() (without the sword and helmat in hands) Toothless is behind him, Astrid is to his right and Valka to his left. He looks at the two women, then back to the vikings. "We clean up Berk, and go home. " He says, "And we train. We will fight Drago and his army. And this time We will Win. (Listen to 3:18-4:50 of King of Pride Rock from the Lion King Soundtrack or listen to the song New Beginning by Automachine while reading this and it makes it more epic ![]() |
