What do you think about Hiccup's fire sword? How was it made? How does it work? When did Hiccup learn sword-fighting? And anything else that comes to mind. ^o) |

It uses the saliva from a Monstrous Nightmare to create the flames. I read that in Dean's interview with Empire. I'm not quite sure how it can be ignited at will, but I would assume that there might be some sort of flint mechanism attached to create a spark. |
Come death. Come suffering. I will not live in fear. In this fleeting life where time escapes us, the path of least resistance is a slow quiet death. I'd rather burn out than fade away. | |

Well the blade is clearly made of bent metal tubes, which appear to telescope into the hilt. I believe an article mentioned that the blade is coated in the same napalm-like substance that Monstrous Nightmares use for their fire. And I would image that a simple flint-based device (like the devices sometimes used to light bunsen burners) could be incorporated into the hilt. So it's completely plausible. Hiccup just needs to be careful that a dragon doesn't set his pants on fire, otherwise he'll loose his other leg too! |

If his sword really uses a burning fluid, then it won't burn for a long time. A gas would explain better how it flow from the cartrigde in the handle to the blade. |

but if it uses Monsterous nightmare saliva it should burn for much longer. Seeing as it's very much like napalm and that burns for an extremely long time (Anything up to around 10 minutes) |

But it is a fluid, you can't compress it. How much would fit in a cartrigde? Around 100 ml? And there is also the problem how it get's up into the blade. |
