So when the first trailer rolled around I did not trust Valka because of her unusual look that she gave Hiccup after she said "But a mother never forgets." And since then for awhile (especially after Valka's line in the interview with Deblois "Do you like it?" I almost feared her. Nut all my fear and mistrust sort of washed away (it's still somewhat there though) when the third trailer came out. The way she acted with Stoick ect. made me love her. And now I'm hoping she is a good person in the end. |

Yeah, I always liked her from the beginning! I don't like it when people say; "Hiccup wasn't the first dragon trainer, waa!" Who cares? So it runs in the family, doesn't mean you have to poop our party... |
What should I write on my signature? Hmm... I am a Httyd, Gravity Falls and Portal (One and two) fan. I'm also a bookworm and an introvert. That was pretty random, but that's me summed up in two sentences.

I'm still a little wary of her. She looks like she'll be a good, likeable character, but I'm worried in this movie she might have the greatest potential of hurting Hiccup. I mean, the way I see it, abducted or not, she kinda abandoned him and Stoick. Cuz in the trailers it hardly looks like she's being held against her will...so in 20 years she never cared enough to come see her son? To explain why she wasn't there? she just waits until he's grown-up? Comes across as selfish and loveless to me. Feel free to disagree, like I said, I still think she'll end up being likable. |

When we first found out about Valka (i.e. as some sort of crazy dragon lady, not as Hiccup's mother), I had no problems of note with her. Interesting idea, which could work or could fail. It appears to have failed. I could go on for a while about all of the things that I hate about this character, but I would like to just focus on one for a moment: everyone in the film views her as so freaking perfect, and what's worse, the film makers seem to agree with them. No one even seems to call her out on all her bovine excrement, let alone call her out and have it stick. Apparently, no one on Berk seems to have any problems with being abandoned or even freaking kidnapped. Well, it does rather go against an important element of the first film: the element of choice. It is the very fact that Hiccup chooses to spare Toothless, going against not only his society but his own bloodline, that makes him interesting and heroic. Now, it's just a case of "half your genetic material was telling you to do that anyway", which is not nearly as noteworthy. And honestly, "it's in the blood" is one of the most boring and trite of fantasy tropes. It adds nothing unless the blood is subverted, and takes away so, so much potential for actual characterisation. |
Number of times I've watched the trailer: 18. My pet peeve: people who refer to complete strangers by their first name. The correct ways to refer to a "John Smith" whom you have never met are Smith, Mr Smith, or John Smith. Not "John". He's not your buddy.

Honestly? I don't like her one bit. I feel that she just ruins the whole "First one to ride one though" thing. I was actually hoping that there would be some ulterior motive and she's not his mum or something, but from the looks of things, that's not the case. Okay, so pretty much everything David said above. I don't feel that strongly about it, but I do agree with most of the points he's making. |

The odds that she will die or dissappear at the end of the movie are really high. ![]() She is the typical passage-character between the first and the third movie of a trilogy. She won't be in the last movie. |

Well you could look at it like at this way. Valka may have ridden a dragon before hiccup, but she may not have techinquilly been a viking when she done it. what i mean is, she may not have considered herself a viking like hiccup. We cant assume too much since we dont know the specifics of how she disppeared or why she never came back to berk. Its possible she wanted to but couldnt fro some reason, though i think its likely, based on how she has been describled is that she just prefers dragons over people and she knew that she couldnt return to place that killed dragons for sport. I mean hiccup himself was about to run away with toothless and may very well have lived a life like valka but he chose to stay behind and try to change things Thats the real differnce in hiccup and valka. They both have a gift with dragons but hiccup chose to try and help vikings and dragons reach peace whereas valka kept them to herself Its not your abilites that define you, but what you choose to do with them |

N4raDov I kind of think you are right in a sense. Valka would not have abandoned her family... we HOPE that she loved them right. If she was kidnapped, she clearly isn't now. So no matter WHEN she got free, why she didn't she go home? I love Valka truly, i think she will be an amazing character. I mean she still loves her family... I just hope she has a pretty good reason. Like she had to save the dragons from extinction or something first before returning. I don't know. |

Yea, I hope the movie does a good job of defining her reasons, and doesn't just expect us to accept her if those reasons are neglected. I'm kinda hoping that Hiccup (and Stoick) don't just welcome her back with open arms without first asking "where were you? and why?" Cuz it really is hard not to look at it as abandonment. I'd have a hard time knowing my own mother chose dragons over me. |

Of course, She has a good reason not to come back home. Remember from the first movie, Stoick feel betrayed when he discover Hiccup and Toothless forbidden friendship. It will be the same thing, if She come back while riding her DRAGON. |
