If I were a therapist with a patient whose platoon was involved in a friendly fire incident, I would seriously consider using this movie as part of a course of therapy. |

Guess I should ask the obvious question. Why? |

I think it depends on how serious the PSTD is to that veteran. My cousin has SEVERE PTSD from being transferred to the US Army (He was Navy; so proud and happy to be, too) and over to Afghanistan for five years. He was bullied as a child, beaten and all, so he grew up to end up drinking and whatnot until one day he joined the US Military. His only friend was in the Army and was in Afghanistan, but the day my cousin arrived to the base he learned that is friend was KIA that day (killed in action). When he finally came home, being done with his service years and being diagnosed with this horrible PTSD, he was not himself. His six squad members all committed suicide, or at least four of them did. The others died in action after he left. He fell asleep on my Grandmother's back porch once, and when my Pappy came home to find him curled up under the bench, he woke him up. My cousin literally almost killed my Grandfather, and ran off terrified and screaming. He's way better now, being in a different state with a girlfriend, who has a six year old kid who absolutely adores him. Maybe some people can be healed by it, and I wish my cousin could but I'm not sure. My cousin doesn't like cartoons, nor things like this....But, this is a great suggestion/theory. [= |

Man, I'm glad he's doing better! However, I really wouldn't recomend watching HtTYD 2 because there's (spoiler) gonna be a battle scene that even some critics say can be too much for young kids. PTSD veterans aren't kids I know, but the canon fire and loud shouting and noises could easily through them over the edge. Spoiler: click to toggle
While this is a movie for all people, I'm afraid those parts would be very sensitive.

Yep, we were all so happy when he got his life straightened out; he's got a job, too. ![]() Thanks for the heads up! At first I panicked when I saw the word spoiler and didn't read it... xD Yea, I heard about the battle thing from a critic on Rotten Tomatoes or some strange website. I probably won't be able to stand it either. I have anxiety/panic attacks at anything that gets too loud. But I think it depends on the level of violence and what the movie is about. But I don't think my cousin would be too pleased to watch something like that. But in case, I'm going to warn him or his girlfriend. Her son might want to go, considering he loves animated movies. |

OOoooo, nonononooo, I didn't mean "Go watch the movie and you'll be cured!" I said "as part of a course of therapy". And "Under supervision of a therapist" And "friendly fire." And I'm guessing, cause I haven't seen the movie and I don't want to extrapolate spoilers. The thing about PTSD therapy is that UNDER SUPERVISION SOME PEOPLE are exposed in stages to situations that are at first distanced from what gave them the trauma, and then taught coping techniques, and then UNDER SUPERVISION are guided closer to the trauma. Seeing that this is a fantasy movie about dragons, this may provide some of the distancing that might be useful IN THERAPY. UNDER SUPERVISION. Eek, sorry about the confusion. In fact, since I'm autistic, I already said I needed the spoilers because heck, without those, it might be too intense for ME. And it's just autism, not what your cousin was subjected to. Eek. Glad your cousin is in a better situation, but I would still hope he would get some therapy. Actually they are developing some advanced therapy utilizing VR (Virtual Reality) UNDER SUPERVISION. ![]() |
