Hello, and welcome to my new story! It's basically The Legend Of The Guardians, but HTTYD style. So, here's the first chapter. Chapter One: The Birth Of A Legend "Long ago, legend told of a band of six dragon riders. Their aim was to vanquish evil, and help those in need.' "Dad, please tell us more!' Ozur pleaded. "Okay then. There were no dragon riders, until now...' "...Because Ozur is going to be the dragon of a rider, for the first time in a century! Aren't you?' "Yep...' Ozur was so excited, he could barely speak. "And as it's getting dark, we'll be leaving soon. So we can't be seen.' "But why mustn't we be seen, Dad?' "Because your rider has no idea of his fate yet... And there is a slight chance of death, if we go in daylight." ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |

Chapter 2: A Boy Ahnok opened his eyes, and got out of bed, rubbing sleep from his eyes. Since about a week ago, he had been having strange dreams about a Night Fury. He would become its rider. However, Ahnok did not believe in messages in dreams, as some other people in his Tribe did. He decided that he would ask his father about it, when he went downstairs to breakfast. "Father?' "Yes?' "I've been getting strange messages in my dreams-' "Nonsense, boy. You've either been eating dragon-nip, or you haven't woken up properly yet. Go and have a wash. That should wake you.' "But, Father-' pleaded poor Ahnok. "Ahnok, I don't want to hear any more about it.' Reluctantly, Ahnok put his furs on, which he had put on the back of his chair, and walked away. "Ahnok! Where are you going?" his father asked. He was in a bad mood, because of the ridiculous rubbish his son had been saying. "Out." Ahnok replied. The door slammed shut. Ahnok's father sighed heavily. His son hardly spoke to him these days, and when he did, it was often in one-word answers. And he had been going out a lot more. He tried to tell himself that Ahnok was just growing up; this was a phase, and he would grow out of it eventually. But deep down, Ahnok's father knew, that his son was discovering himself. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |

Chapter 3: Finding Your Dragon Ahnok walked along in the woods. He felt that this was the only place on the island where he could get some peace from his father. It was so peaceful here... Wait a second... He could have sworn he heard voices. Voices of dragons. "Ozur, I'm going to fly off now... Remember, stay here until your human comes to you.' He could understand them! Ahnok knew that his ancestors could understand Dragonese, but he had thought the art of speaking to dragons had died out by now. After all, it had been a century since anybody had this gift... And besides, speaking Dragonese was banned. Ahnok moved closer towards where the voices were coming from. Suddenly, a dragon jumped out at him. "What in Thor's name do you think you're doing-' Ahnok shouted in Norse. The dragon promptly pounced on him. When the boy looked up into the dragon's face, he could tell it was a Night Fury. Kill on sight. Why did it have to be a Night Fury? Ahnok's last thought was, before he passed out. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |

Chapter 4: The Forming Of A Friendship When he woke up, Ahnok saw the Night Fury's concerned face. Although, to Ahnok, it looked as if the dragon was preparing to eat him. Instinctively, he tried to scream, but it came out as a squeak. So, he thought. How will it eat me?' At times like these, Ahnok wished that he did not know that dragons prefer to eat their prey alive, and they play with them, like a cat plays with a mouse. Ironically, the Night Fury was acting rather like a cat. It stretched out, and laid on its belly, head between its paws. It had started to purr; once again, not unlike a cat. It's playing with me, thought Ahnok. It's enjoying my terror. It's going to pretend to fall asleep, and then, when I try to get away, it'll catch me. Ahnok spent most of his spare time studying dragons, as his ancestors had, so he knew that this was their strategy. However, in his heart, Ahnok knew that the Night Fury would not harm him. They were friends now; at least, the Night Fury seemed to think so. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Hey, Dad.' Ahnok greeted his father, as he came home. His father did not speak. Ahnok presumed that he was still in a bad mood, from breakfast. The boy went up the stairs to his room. He took off his furs, and hung them on the back of his chair next to his desk. The area above his desk was covered with drawings of dragons, and even the beginnings of a Dragonese dictionary. Strangely, his father did not seem to mind, as Ahnok thought he should; Dragonese was banned, after all. Ahnok walked back to his bed, and got into it. Today's been a good day, he thought contentedly. He was just beginning to go to sleep, when he heard a creaking sound. He assumed it was his father, getting up from his chair to say goodnight to him, but then he heard the sound again. There was something on the roof... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |

Chapter 5: An Unexpected Visitor Suddenly, I saw the Night Fury's face in my bedroom window. "AAAHHHHHHH! Go! Get out! If my father finds out you're here-' "Son? What are you doing?' The Night Fury removed it's head from my window, and flew off. My father ran into my room. "Ahnok, what happened?' "Oh, nothing.' "Really? Because I think I know what's going on!' "Erm... You do?' I asked warily. "Yep. I've seen you with that Night Fury. But don't worry, son, I'm not mad! Our ancestors would be so proud of us! This is our legacy!' I was still puzzled. "What? Why are you not mad?' "Because dragon training is in our blood, Ahnok.' "Yes, I knew that, but-' "We're Dragonmarkers, son. I was going to tell you, but you weren't old enough. And, I was afraid you wouldn't have The Gift.' "The Gift? Of what?' "Dragon training!' "Oh, right.' "But it seems like you have it! I'm so happy for you, son! Now that you're old enough, we need to join the others. We leave tomorrow. I'm sure this is a lot to take in, so why don't you go to sleep?" I was more than happy to. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
