Well, Dean DeBlois did say that characters in the 2nd film would be more important in the 3rd... :O

my speculation would be that he has the cloudjumper pendant because the dragon has given him grief during his dragon trapping career and he was using it as a totem or reminder to himself of the dragons presence. As for the color of the war paint. I think that was a purely aesthetic choice. It fell within the movies color palette and looked good on Eret.

Valka as a source of knowledge about Night Furies, Eret as a Hiccup's "right hand" during quest "Let's find another Night Fury". And Drago will come again... Maybe with another Night Fury? I'm sure, that in third movie will be more much references to second, than in second to the first movie. Nothing is known... Until 2016. And except that 3rd movie will be about dragons. Especially about Toothless. :)
